I'll set off on a quest to sprite my first two.
My third one is actually close to finished; I just need to
double the size (it's 16x16), recolor it, and animate it.
Ice Fang, Electric Storm, Core Badges.
Eh.
I'll start working on them later today; it's already past
midnight here in South Africa :P

If I might ask, to who was this?
I had to give Wayne and KarjamP the 3rd place badge for the
first contest, but I couldn't do Wayne's (since his displayed
name contains "weird letters" in "Waenn". Hope I didn't misspell
that.).
I had to get around it by using his registered name (Wayne).

Knowing Taylor, I think that each chess-playing member gets two
badges associated with their names. For example (and this is
probably going to be random):
Captain Jack Sparrow beat Taylor, Shane, Polaris, Dr. Time, Dr.
Egregious, Bla bla bla 44, Kanpachi, KarjamP, and Wayne.
He gets nine badges, each badge representing the person that he
defeated.

No, the white background will remain.
There are some image-editing programs (like Paint.Net
HTML http://www.getpaint.net/)
that allow one to add transparency to
images.
As for animated badges, I just use Beneton Movie GIF

to make

Anyone willing to lose fifty games to the same person has my
respect for his/her extreme tenacity. :D Be very afraid of
such a person; losing teaches you much faster than winning does.
I've settled on mine, for now: one win will confer the Sealed
Grimoire badge, and ten wins will earn the Open Grimoire badge,
in homage to Alice Margatroid, one of my favorite Touhou
characters. :) I'll sprite them myself; it's as good a time
to learn as any. :) If anybody manages to take the Open
Grimoire from me, I'll figure something out for the fifty-win
badge. :D

Glowing Grimoire". :))
