Why do you want to be LSPD?
What does it take to become a police officer? Do you need to
take criminal justice classes, get a criminal justice degree, or
attend a police school? Getting police officer jobs can be very
competitive. However, by understanding and following the advice
below, your chances of becoming a law enforcement officer will
increase dramatically. Find out what you need to know!
There are many, many different types of federal, state, and
local law enforcement jobs. Below are some VERY important
factors that should be considered the moment you think you might
want to become a police officer or other law enforcement
       officer.
You might have a criminal justice degree or homeland security
degree, and be an otherwise good candidate for police officer
jobs, but if you have a bad reputation, you might have a hard
time getting hired. If people perceive you to be irresponsible,
immature, lazy, rude, stupid, crazy, etc., then you might have a
difficult time obtaining a law enforcement officer job with most
agencies. Note that I used the term perceive. You might be a
responsible, energetic, polite, intelligent person with good
common sense. However, if people perceive you to be otherwise, a
background investigator or hiring authority filling police
officer jobs might never realize that. A thorough background
investigation will include asking several people personal
questions about your character. These people can include family
members, current and past classmates, teachers, neighbors,
coworkers, supervisors, landlords, etc. Investigators might
speak with people that knew you years earlier. Whether or not
you become a police officer can depend heavily on your
reputation! That being said, don't think that you don't need or
shouldn't take criminal justice classes, get a criminal justice
degree, or some other degree just because you have a good
reputation. Getting a college degree is one of the best things
that you can do if you want to become a police officer. Read
more about the importance of college for police.
It is often simple, basic things that determine whether or not
someone gets hired for a police officer job. Learn more about
how your education, criminal history, employment history,
credit, etc. can affect your chances of becoming a police
officer. Learn why joining the military, improving your
communications skills, improving your observation and memory
skills, and improving your physical fitness can make you a MUCH
better candidate and increase your chances of getting police
       officer jobs.
Remember that knowledge is power! Continue exploring our site.
The more you learn about police jobs and how to get them, the
further ahead of your competition you could be. Most larger law
enforcement agencies have their own websites where you can find
general information about the agency and detailed information
about applicant requirements and the agency's hiring process.
Below are the other most important things to consider if you
want to become a law enforcement officer.
The sooner that you start preparing for your career as a police
       officer, the better.
