To think this ride was privately owned bust to be sold of and
off. to become a six flags park when the chain expanded under
the premier ownership. Then just to get sold off and shuffled
around again. Finally making a complete 360 and return to being
a Six Flags park.
It will be interesting to see how this park changes and expands
back under Six Flags Control.

Planning as one of the stops on my New England park trip this
summer (along with Quassy, Lake Compunce, SFNE, Canobie, Great
Escape, and Waldameer).
Great Escape and Darien Lake and Waldameer is in far north west
PA (I live in the South Eastern part, and go to college in South
Jersey). My dad has a friend from college who lives in Rochester
(which about as far away from Darien Lake as my house is to
Dorney or Rowan to Great Adventure).
We've met with them in the past, but it's been at least 4 years.

SFI sold this park when they were in dire financial trouble.
Around the same time they dumped their holdings in Europe and
Astroworld in Houston. The revenue from the sales held off
bankruptcy for a bit but it came anyhow. Now restructured and
in better shape they are expanding again and this was one of the
acquisitions. We were there last summer to ride thwr new
coaster and the park looked pretty good.

Sounds like an ambitious trip. Hope you enjoy the parks.
Just don't stay their. I priced out the campground and the
prices are insane.

My dad has friends from college who live in Rochester, which
helps as a whole in the money department

If you are staying in Rochester, Seabreeze is a nice smaller
park. Jack Rabbit is a classic woodie built in 1920. It is not
an all day park but I think they used to have a nightime
admission rate. Not sure now if they still have that.

Hotels in Rochester arn't bad saw a few good rated ones starting
in the 80 range. a few cheaper ones but bad ratings. still a
world more reasonable then DL resort prices.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I saw this on Screamscape the
other day and made me start thinking...
HTML http://www.screamscape.com/html/six_flags_darien_lake.htm
Looks like Darien Lake might be changing things around in the
next few years.
I just moved out to Syracuse last spring, and have only made one
trip to DL. (Superman) Ride of Steel was closed the whole day.
You could see some empty trains being sent during the day, but
we left around 3PM after riding what rides we wanted too.
Defiantly need one more trip out there if rumors are true. :(
:( :(
Motocoaster actually impressed me with the launch. Wasn't TTD or
KK level, but not bad for what looked to be a pretty tame ride.
Had the longest line we waited in.
Mind Eraser was down (that is covered in the Screamscape
article, and I believe that is why it was down), but there is
only a million of these SLCs, so wasnt too concerned.
Tantrum was pretty cool, my BF was a little scared. Predator was
decent as well.
Wasn't a bad park, but I am going to miss SFNE for sure. I think
my friend has a wedding out in Hartford in June, so maybe I will
be able to make a stop at SFNE and / or LC.

None of these rumors are positive at all. I'm sure there are
people who like water parks and would like a bigger water park
but they haven't even added the last planed water park addition
so why would they need to remove the parks top billed attraction
to make room to expand it.
I get coasters can be costly to keep up but in some cases it's
worth it. Ride of Still is the park biggest coaster and one of
the things that help s DL stand out in the area that has 2 other
parks within a hour. Downgrading the park can only hurt not help
the park down the line. You would think the owners would want to
make the investment to keep the coaster running because a drop
in attendance and returns will only lead to lower profits down
the line.
