A new Coaster poll
By: Mrceagle Date: November 10, 2019, 9:22 pm

A site called Ellocoaster is taking over where Mitch Hawker left
off with a reboot of the famed Steel and wood coaster polls.
Voting is now open so if you want to participate check it out
and get your ballots.
talk about your thoughts and some of your favorite coasters. We
can discuss the results as they come out.

I just did the wood poll. Even with 87 of the coasters ridden,
it took less than an hour. I am sure the steel will take a bit
longer. We have missed the Hawker Poll so this new poll using a
similar approach is a welcome addition.
In general polls are not that important but they can help when
you are traveling and have to make a choice on where to go or
even what to ride in a park when time becomes an issue. So I
will take the time to submit a good ballot and thank those that
do the same.

One thing they suggest if you are going a longer coaster count
is if things start getting fuzzy to lump coaster together. at
100,200,300,400, 500 etc based on your eagerness to ride. so do
a top 50 or so then lump the rest together. There is an example
on the web page.
I haven't been on a lot of coasters and some of my coasters are
removed or relocated so I can't vote on them. but I have around
48 steel I can vote on and 11 wood. I have been on over a dozen
coasters that have been removed and a couple are not in the poll
at all.

I completed the steel poll now too. I couldn't work on it
straight thru but I would guess I spent about 90 minutes. I
ranked the 305 steel coasters we had ridden that were on the
ballot. I used the grouping method for all coasters after the
top 40. That helped speed the process.
I am looking forward to the results. I did look at the wood
coaster results from this poll for 2017 and 2018. The top
ratings of coasters from outside North America was refreshing to
see.

I agree. It is good to see a wide range of coasters in the top
list.
I wrote them about a missing coaster Orient Expres at fun world.
Seems the setup they have excludes kiddie, wacky warm, mountain
coasters, etc. My only complaint with this is the list included
the orient express at Palace playland which is smaller and The
coast at Quechee Gorge which is 8ft tall and definitely a kiddie
coaster.

There are some errors, a coaster is at the wrong park (it said
Flying Turns was at Kings Dominion, El Toro's at SF Darien
Lake), or name was wrong all together (it's Coastasuarus, not
Meteor).

You could contact them. Being new and being such a large list
There are bound to be errors.
I also about Orient express at Funworld and was told it was cut
since RCDB has it listed as a kiddie coaster. Strangely enough,
the orient express at palace playlands on the list and so are
all the tinny kiddie Zamperla coasters SFI has.
a few errors aside, I hope you take the time to cast your vote.

In my travels riding I have found the RCDB listings between
kiddie and family very blurred. It isn't really a big problem
and the RCDB is still an incredible tool. I think Ellocoaster
would have done better to just include everything. There are
many kiddie coasters that I prefer over boomerangs. LOL

Vapor Trail, Harleyquinn's Crazy Train, Road Runner, and
Spinning Parrot are on the list, and I'd class those as kiddie
coasters.
