       Hello.
I've got a bit of time to kill so I thought i'd make a post
about my friend Bernard. Most know him intimately, others not so
       much.
Bought in 2009 from a really wide man in Nottinghamshire for
       £1100
       [IMG]
  HTML https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1.0-9/17072_1322582868801_5290408_n.jpg[/img]
Stripped down over a good while:

Lots of welding happened (rear cross, gearbox + bellhousing
       cross, dumb irons)
  HTML https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/168297_1802912596744_6262616_n.jpg[/img]

       New bulkhead got fabricated:
  HTML https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1.0-9/165265_1798501806477_5259327_n.jpg[/img]

       Had a stainless tank made:

Then play was stopped for a good while when the chief engineer
shuffled off this mortal coil, but due to some wonderful people
we managed to get things moving again...
       Stuff got manhandled together:

Bulkhead had some salvaged footwells put in thanks to Luke and
       FenTiger:

Then I got kicked out of the yard and brought him home:

Luke came and did some beautiful welding, with help from Boots
       and Nuggett:

       I did some tarting:
  HTML https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/t1.0-9/418585_3301818388452_361389773_n.jpg[/img]

And then he had to go away and see uncle Jon as the V8 needed to
go for insurance reasons - 18 year old with a V8 series
apparently wasn't ok, so I bought a disco as a donor and we did
       some more spannering:
  HTML https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1.0-9/578763_4316446793528_1486542153_n.jpg[/img]

       Smashed up some rare shit:
  HTML https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/625453_4381103929916_2037662190_n.jpg[/img]
And got it running, mot'd and taxed. For about 2 months, until
something happened which negated a new chassis:

Swapped everything in a weekend onto a galvanised Tickford
       chassis:

       So, Bernard.
He's been back in service for a few months now since the Capri
monumentally shat itself. All good up until last friday when the
brakes decided that working properly was for losers and he had
to miss an event i'd been looking forward to for about 6 months.
Despite the burning hatred I had for the petulant little car, I
did however enjoy the do and see a lot of good friends after far
too long apart. Playing with a couple of other 80"s did
massively put mine into perspective though - fucking hell, what
       a shed I own.
It's nothing some effort can't fix, but I think i've just been
hugely complacent/ lazy with it, or more to the point the 19
year old me probably just wasn't as bothered as the 21 year old
me abut rattles and thuds and noise and it looking crap.
Stage one: tart it up. Today has seen some of this happen, and
       tomorrow will see even more of the same;

I love ratty land rovers to bits, but the level Bernard got to
was a bit much. Flat grey-green does it no favours, and it's
bloody annoying to have so much time and effort looking so
rough. Luckily a touch of polish has brought it back to a much
more acceptable level, and i've cleaned up all the galvanising
that was so lovingly painted over by a previous owner.
Following that will come some nice Lucas L488s to replace the
hideous Wipacs currently adorning my wings and add some 50's
       class back.
Next up, making it more amicable to live with. I've bought a
roll of carpet, dug out some extra bolts and fixings, some OEM
engine and gearbox mounts to replace the Shitpart ones fitted at
the moment and hopefully it'll start to settle down in there.
The real issue is the exhaust. It's fun, but my god it's loud.
Silencers and a rear exit will be making an appearance soon, I
       feel.
Also, it needs (another) gearbox, an overdrive, and a heater and
i'm pretty sure i'll be at a stage where i'm properly happy with
       it.
Watch this space if you can be arsed. I've got some motivation
       and i'm loving it.

If I need a dose of enthusiasm to get on with my 80", then
Bernard is it. Wasn't it involved in a chassis-bending game of
       bumper cars at some point?
Is that a young Jeremy Clarkson....?
       no?

Matt, if you are after a heater you could do a lot worse (i.e.
Smiths leakingallovertheplace round heaters) than a T7 Designs
