There exists among the gilets jaunes a kind of 'moral economy'
of merit and effort that expresses a sense of dignity but that,
at the same time, could be exploited in very diverse ideological
ways: for example, against social assistance (it is noticeable a
recurring theme of criticism of ' assistanat' ), 'privileged'
workers (such as railway workers or teachers) or against the
poor who 'don't work'. But despite some sporadic discursive
slips, so far it has worked rather against the social contempt
of 'caste' and the technocratic-neoliberal and ultra-arrogant
       meritocracy embodied by Macron.

walls is 'Macron resignation'. The French
president managed to be more unpopular than François Hollande
and his capitalist modernization project to confront French
'decadence', together with his president-monarch aesthetic, is
today in question. France is, beyond the alternation between
conservatives and social democrats, a country governed by a
closed elite, arising from the National School of Administration
       (ENA) and the Polytechnic School.

An example of this attitude can be found in a speech by Macron
[from 2017], when inaugurating a train station he said:who don't
smile» )'. 'Macron listens but he doesn't hear,' summarized an
opposition deputy. With a left in crisis , the indignation has
been mutating. In 2010, Stéphane Hessel wrote the book-pamphlet
Indignez-vous! (Outrage!) , translated into multiple languages
as a catechism of the progressive outrage
movement. Today that text reads more like recent history than a
       manual for action.
