After your first few listens, in what order would you rank all
the songs on Ride Out? It could be interesting to come back in
a few weeks/months and see if & how our opinions change!

1/ "Hey Gypsy" (love the red smokin' hot bluesy sound) great nod
to guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn
2/ "Ride Out" ( dig the rhythm and groove on this ditty ....fun
and catchy)
3/ "Detroit Made" (upbeat up-tempo get your heart pumping
tribute to his home state and hey any tune that involves cars I
am in Makin' Thunderbirds; the Beach Boys etc ...LOL
4/ "All the Roads" probably my favorite of the ballads on
here.....loved the first time I heard it live ....but miss Altos
sax on the studio version vs. live
5/ "the Devil's Right Hand" great storytelling song and again
upbeat music wise ....
6/ "California Stars" another song from the previous tour ; love
the swing sound and groove to it ....fun song ...dig the horn
section on it . but again like the version heard on tour better
.
7/ "You Take Me"- great lyrics and Bob sounds awesome on this
song written for Nita .....neat to know that piece of
information
8/ "Listen"- man this was a toss up between the last two postion
wise.......but again another well written tune lyrically and has
the potential of getting some air lay via country stations if
you ask me.....simple and pure
9/ "It's Your World" okay gotta say first off ecology
environmentalist type song .... and I know for some that is a
issue . the topic doesn't really get me all riled up like other
issue other message type tunes. ....for example I dig the
scorching rockin' 2+2=? ......but I was really really young
during the Vietnam era......but on "Face the Promise" he did "No
More" trying to parallel the current war efforts to Vietnam ;
and that doesn't do a thing for me ...in fact I disagree to be
honest .....but back to the song ....musically I dig the tune
and vibe ....and Bob sounds awesome here .....the percussion
stuff is really cool too !!
10/ "Passin Through" -the first of the Target tracks
....lyrically neat .....and the more I listen to this one the
more I like it ....and the fact that Cole and Sam sing in the
closing chorus portion makes it that much more sweet to me
.....a treasure for his kids to hang onto for ages to come !! :D
11/ "It All Goes On"- the second of the Target Tracks .....a
pleasant surprise to me mid up tempo and love the guitar solo !!
"""
12/ "Gates of Eden" - lyrically powerful and again Bob's voice
sounds strong on this one .....(Cole says this is his fav tune
his Dad has written ...and this one keeps growing on me more and
more )
13/ "the Fireman's Talkin" - unlike Its Your World which is more
up front topic wise lyrically this global warming tune is more
cryptic in tone and lyrics although
upbeat musically it is not really my cup o' tea bluegrass style
....but it is better than one other blue grass tone one
musically for me ...which I will get to in a mnute
14/ "Adam & Eve" - okay this is the one I was referring to above
.....lyrically a cool tune and I must admit it is neat to hear
Bob duet with Laura; when I first heard they were going to throw
some fiddle and banjo on the CD I will admit I was not thrilled
; and somewhat skeptical. Oddly I find it works on this tune and
others that used these instruments ....but genre wise it is just
not my cup o' tea...which is why its on the bottom for me
15/ "Let the Rivers Run"-his voice is great sounding on this one
but it is the slowest moving to me of the entire CD .....it just
didn't grab me like the rest .
that is my ranking commentary for each included ......sorry if
you all find it long winded ....overall I like the new release
and find Bob's voice evne stronger than when he released "Face
the Promise" ....will be interested in seeing what songs make
the tour ......for some reason I don't think my ranking will
change all that much some could swap from like the first two
which is a close call for me .....

1. Detroit Made-I'm a sucker for a true rock and roll song
2. All of the Roads-Classic Seger lyrics
3. Ride Out-Ditto
4. California Stars-I just like it...his voice suits it.
5. You Take Me In-Love song..won't be popular with everyone
6. Hey Gypsy..I actually really like this song, but the other
Seger Lyric songs seemed more substantial..and Ron is
right...SRV's 'Pride and Joy' definitely an influence, eh?
7. The Devil's Right Hand..like the repetition of last verse of
one stanza to first verse of next
8. Gates Of Eden--definitely some spirituality going on in this
album as an underlying theme
9. Adam and Eve-It's OK
10. Let The Rivers Run..Spiritual, kind of simplistic though
11. Listen-OK
12. The Fireman's Talkin- Do not Understand ;/
13. It's Your World-I don't want to hear an environmental
message from one of my favorite rockers- Sorry!

I was hoping for a really rock and roll heavy album--but if this
is where Bob is right now in his life, and the music reflects
that, it is Ok by me..I will be there in Saginaw and God willing
Toledo (And Detroit) cheering him on!

12. The Fireman's Talkin- Do not Understand ;/
Here's my take: I'm not sure who the Fireman is (someone said
Bob's brother or brother-in-law is a fireman, so maybe it's just
very literal?), but, IMO, this song is pretty much a collection
of political talking points about global warming:
[li]Ice is meltin' the seas are high[/li]
[li]It might take decades but it will get here[/li]
[li]You won't be denyin' anymore[/li]
[li]Orlando by the sea, where will all your magic be? Right
where it should be[/li]
What I'm hearing is ... melting ice caps have caused Florida to
fall into the ocean, so Orlando is now on the new "coast" and
Disney World is under water (the reference to "magic" being the
Magic Kingdom?). I hate that he had to go the "climate change
deniers" route as that is such an insulting way to refer to
people who question the "man-made global warming" culture.
13. It's Your World-I don't want to hear an environmental
message from one of my favorite rockers- Sorry!
Totally agree.
At least Fireman is creative and complex in its language and
imagery; It's Your World just comes off as preachy to me. (Which
I know is the opposite of your opinion, Ron! LOL!) These are
the only songs I dislike on the cd, so I got all my negativity
out in one post. 8)

Top songs: All Of The Roads
Adam and Eve
Ride Out
Middle of the road ...I like to varying degrees but don't love
(yet?):
Detroit Made
Let The Rivers Run (makes me a little melancholy)
You Take Me In
Gates Of Eden
Hey Gypsy
Listen
All the others are songs I dislike and skip (2 for sure) or are
tunes I am still trying to "get" and maybe they will grow on me.
I skip the two that have been mentioned regarding environmental
issue/preaching. I have stated elsewhere I do not like it when
artists get "political" but I understand they are expressing
what they are passionate about. The problem is, it does turn off
fans who may not agree.
I also stated on facebook how much a I really adore the MUSIC on
many tracks....the instrumentation is very beautiful and I
prefer it and the vocals to the lyrics at some points. I hate to
think or say that his writing is not as great as it was decades
ago, I feel it and he have "evolved" with age. I love Wreck This
Heart too, but nothing he has produced in the past 10 years can
compare with my dozen favorites from long ago.
I do feel that some of these will grow on me if I allow them to.

Finally have a few minutes to add some thoughts on the songs. I
rarely use my ipod so I just listen to the cd in the car - and
it's funny how excited I get when I realize I'm going somewhere
and get to play it!
1. All of the Roads - LOVE!!! Perfectly reflective and wistful
without being depressing. I wouldn't change a thing on this
song!
2. Gates of Eden - I find this is hauntingly beautiful. To me,
it's about looking for answers & meaning but not necessarily
finding them. It ends being "stranded at the gates" - so there
is no resolution. Part of me wishes there was a happy-ending
final verse, but it's more thought provoking as it. And the
arrangement is SO powerful!
3. Listen - Sweet, sweet song! I love Vince's harmonies and I
love Bob telling us he'll leave the light on for us. lol
4. You Take Me In - I like how this is a love song but can also
be a friendship song - I like when the lyrics are open to more
than 1 interpretation
5. Ride Out - Truly classic Seger. When the name of the cd was
announced, I expected "Ride Out" to be a swan song but this
isn't! The lyrics strike me as being more about new beginnings
than fading off into the sunset. Yay!
6. Adam & Eve - This has already moved WAY up on my list. It's
awesome!
7. Let the Rivers Run - This has moved up, too; liking it more
& more
8. Passin’ Through - Would like this more without the kiddie
choir. Sam & Cole are grown, so who are the children?!
9. California Stars - Cute & Ok. Bob sounds good but the song
itself is repetitive & doesn't have much substance
10. It All Goes On - I have a hard time paying attention to
this one for some reason
11. Hey Gypsy - I do love the SRV "Price & Joy" sound but the
lyrics don't do a thing for me
12. Detroit Made - Cars. Meh.
13. Devil’s Right Hand - Catchy sound but I just don't get it.
I mean, I get the story but what's the point? lol
