After a 2 year absence due to Covid am really pleased to confirm
that the Summer Leage will resume this year with a scheduled
start date of 31st May.
Summer League Rule Changes
In an effort to achieve more competitive matches and a greater
involvement for more teams the following changes are being
introduced:
1. Revised points structure - Singles (x4) 1pt each; Doubles &
55 (both x2) 2pts each = 12pts per match maximum
2. White ball in hand after foul anywhere on the table in 55s
together with the option to make your opponent play again but no
additional 3pts penalty
3. Qualification from group stages to be extended to maintain
interest
- Top 8 qualify main SL KO (Team trophies Winner, r/u)
- 9-16 qualify Plate KO (Team trophies Winner & r/u)
Insufficient 2022 entries to justify a further qualification
tournament 17-24. For this season a KO will be considered for
those few teams eliminated at the group stage who may be
interested.
4. KO rounds to be seeded i.e. 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc to place
greater importance / interest of the final group positions in
deciding KO qualification / opposition.
5. 55s matches still to be based on divisional handicaps which
will be updated to reflect current winter season individual
averages.
Registration forms will be issued to Team Captains later this
month with team groups / fixtures published at least 2 weeks
prior to the scheduled 31st May start date.
In the meantime enjoy the remainder of the Winter season

Here is this year's Summer League entry form. Print it and fill
it in, or edit it in Word and send it back to me. There is a
Word version as well as a PDF attached to this message but you
need to be registered on the forum to see them. If you struggle
to do so, send me your email address and I'll send you one asap.
Fees to go directly to the league's bank account.

If the 3 points for a foul is being scrapped in the 55s I think
you should have a choice of ball in hand or make your opponent
play from where the cue ball is. Ball in hand isn't much of an
advantage if the balls are stuck to cushions and there's nothing
to discourage a deliberate foul if there's no 3 point penalty.
Thoughts anyone?

Summer League - Removal of standard 3 point foul rule
Apologies Damo for not coming back to you sooner on your 19th
April post.
You make a good point that in removing the 3pt foul rule from
55s it could be open to tactical fouls. As you suggest we will
therefore also introduce the option after a foul to make your
opponent play again. We will also incorporate a 5pt penalty for
3 consecutive fouls in the same visit while retaining the
opportunity to make your opponent play again until a legal shot
has been played.
This will be incorporated in the associated rules that will go
out with Summer League fixtures in addition to the changes
outlined in my earlier post.
