Ah Pam & Diana...I need some Orchid growing tips. I do NOT have
a green thumb and I know they are temperamental plants. I
bought one from Walmart the other day 'cause mom loved them.
I'd really like to NOT kill this one....HELP!

Jan, my mom has been growing them since she was a teen. She
waters them I think 3 times a week, has some in the cover porch
and other are outside they do not get direct sun, she uses a
hose to water them she has over 50 plants so I know she does not
do one by one. She feterlizes them but I don't know how often.
Me on the other hand have one and in 3 years I have never seen a
blum.
I do good with violets though... ;D ;D ;D
I'll send you a plant also.
and if any of you want one I can send it to you, but the minute
you get it you need to put it in a pot so that it won't die.
Let me know, I need to help her do this soon.

Thanks Diana...the instructions said place 3 ice cubes ones a
week. So I get the indirect water thing. 3 ice cubes does not
seem like much!

Thanks for the praise... Here's what I do to my orchids, works
really well for me,I have blooms 75% of the yr.
1. Thoroughly drench in sink about once a week, allow water to
drain out bottom. They don't like to be in standing water.
2. Bright indirect sunlight, they don't like direct sun
3. Fertilize every other watering with an orchid fertilizer
mixed on the weak side to be sure.
4. Circulating air, like a ceiling fan is good.
5.Spritz with water frequently, especially in your summer, once
in am.
6. Usually need repotted once per year,I use the orchid bark
medium
7.According to experts, 60-85 degrees is ideal
Diane's Mom is probably the expert that I would like to talk
to, sounds like she has some beauties and precious one's too.
They are easy and actually take a lot less care than some of my
other plants.
P.S. Some of the photos I have taken of them, are framed and
make great gifts....

Janelle, what a soft up-lifting springy thing you have created.
I just love trumpet vine and I am always tearing out rogue vines
from my yard. Love the design on this one and that butterfly is
perfect!!!
