Ancestry.Com?

Just wondering if anyone here uses the site Ancestry.com? I
started watching that show on Friday nights where Ancestry.com
helps movie stars to trace there roots. Of course it's not a
free site, but you can use it I believe for 14 days for free,
though you cannot use many of the extras like "viewing" records
that are on line. I think I'm gonna go ahead and pay for the
site for 6 months, we have quite a bit our of families geneology
done on my moms side and quite a bit on my dads fathers side,
but his mothers side is sorely lacking and there are gaps in the
other sides as well. I have two uncles left living on my dads
side and only 2 on my moms side with one of them deep in the
throes of Alzheimers, so if I'm going to get any help with any
of these I need to get it now. The Uncles on my dads side I
haven't talked to in almost 40 years, isn't that crazy, but they
lived in different states, my mom didn't get along with them and
when my dad dies they lost touch with us. I'm hoping to get
some stories before the stories are gone.
Does anyone here do Geneology? Where do you find the majority
of your info? Have you found that it helps you to reconnect
with people from the past?

it gives some free sites that I used to gather as much as I
could. I did the 2 week free trial after that and got so much
info I decided to pay for it. and I still do because there's
something new always popping up. I honestly found it totally
worth it.

My daughter worked on her genealogy during her senior year of
high school and is starting again to research. I know that
ancestry.com was one of her sources but I am not sure what else.
I could get you in contact with her if you want.

I have alWAYS been curious... really would like to know.. but
since I am not from US, they wouldn't have it.. my grandpa's dad
was born in Alabama, US!

Milie, I believe that Ancestry.com has international records
there as well, not positive though, once I join I'll let you
know. My grandmothers side is mostly from England, Wales,
Ireland and I believe there are some Scotts in their as well.
Once they came to the U.S. we know that they came in and lived
in the Massachusetts Bay Colony for a bit, then transplanted to
Connecticut of all places where they were among the first
settlers of Hartford, CT., the Capital of my state. They then
somehow made their way to Illinois, and Missouri ... but I'm not
sure when and whom made the big move. It's funny because we
always just knew my dad to be from the midwest ... no one had
any idea that his family came through CT. and had such a big
part in helping to settle it, and in fact he never knew that
when he passed away. I wish he had though.

Really cool Tania!
My maternal grandma's family was from Lebanon, then moved to
Surinam in South America where SHE was born.. they fled the
uncertainties in Lebanon before she was born and left a fabric
store behind.. I will have to check it out!

i haven't delved into the international records yet because the
language barrier intimidates me and i want to get enough in the
basic first.
