       Judging

We have received lots of submissions, and that's even though
people don't yet know if the originals will be judged. So far
we've not mentioned anything publicly about judging.
       There are two possibilities:
       (a) No judging: Probably not. People would be disappointed.
       (b) Judging: How are the problems to be divided?
If we go for (b), we should be flexible in the division. We
can't follow the usual FIDE album and typical magazine division
into types. And we will likely need to create the division at
the end of the year in which the originals appear.
Broadly speaking, it looks like there should be three
       categories.
Orthodox: Traditionally these are separated into #2, #3, #n, eg,
H#n, S#n, and in some cases the helpmates are further split. We
might well combine all these into one.
       Fairy: Anything non-orthodox.
Retro: Anything with a retro element to the play.
Some problems could be considered to belong to either of two
categories, depending on which is more convenient. For example:
       Orthodox or Fairy: Reflexmates, help-selfmates,
       help/direct-stalemates, series problems, add-a-unit.
       Fairy or Retro: Fairy retractors.
We are likely to decide on these divisions based on the number
of problems in each category and/or on the judges' preferences.
