Big gray area going into tomorrow night in a battle of 5-9 teams
hoping to keep from dropping further back in the pack. W&M has
played its last two games without two huge pieces in Dorsey and
Collier, and I can't find anything on their status for our tilt,
but the line has us at -3.5, which makes me think somebody's
out. The Tribe seemed to be fine without them on Monday though,
coming from behind to stun highly touted Towson thanks in part
to a 20-point night from Wight. Collier was great in our last
game against them, putting up a 10 and 7 that felt like more
       than that.
The most notable effort that night came from Nelson, who
finished 8 for 8 from the field and 7 for 8 from the line in
what was a 27-point day for him. Aside from the shooting, I was
really impressed with him. I felt like you knew that the team
knew that he was the leader on the floor, which makes sense with
his resume from St. Thomas. He led a barrage of threes that day,
especially early. Overall, W&M shot 13 for 16 from deep and
better than 57 percent from the field overall. It was great to
see the guys battle all the way back in that one though.
Looking at the playoff picture, with a soft schedule remaining,
Hampton has an outside shot at getting out of the 12/13 game,
but I just don't think they've shown enough to suggest that they
can make up a two-game gap. If that's the case, that leaves the
12, which is currently occupied by Northeastern. NU has a prime
opportunity to get that early breather with home games against
Monmouth and W&M on the ledger next. If their fans had to guess
who would drop from the group of five 5-9 teams, I have to think
it would be us considering we still have dates with the top
three teams in the conference. Our remaining opponents have a
combined 41 conference wins, compared to Monmouth (17), W&M
       (19), Elon (28) and Delaware (31).
I was thinking earlier today about the kinds of seasons we've
had under Geno. I really had higher expectations for last year's
team, but it just felt like bad basketball most of the time.
Jenkins and Roberts were two of best scorers to ever put on a
       Stony Brook uniform – I don't think there's much debate there –
but man did it look disjointed. Olaniyi's return felt like a big
deal but nope, he didn't even make it through the year. The
transfers' arrival pushed our best player from the prior year –
JRod – to a supporting role and he suddenly couldn't shoot. We
couldn't really rebound outside of Tykei and we did not defend
like we've seen in years past.
i bring this up because this year's been a puzzle that has been
really difficult to put together. Just a bizarre roster makeup
made worse by a bizarre rash of injuries. Frankenstein really.
And as crazy as the transfer portal is, an issue that could be
exacerbated by a coaching change, man, does it feel like we're
all over the place. We'll have to swallow what will likely be
our first 20-loss season since 2007-08 and then brace ourselves
for the seemingly inevitable upheaval ... which, honestly,
looking around, I'd sign up for.

Last years team scored a lot because of offensive talent but I
agree it never meshed well. With that said a runner up finish in
the finals was probably going to happen pre ban. In the age of
the portal moving on to a new coach IMO can lead to a quick
       rebuild.

the drawback to transfer portals. that and the fact that you
may disrupt the locker room when veterans swoop in to steal
       minutes.
heres what spallina said- keep in mind it's hard to argue with
       his success:
"...There will be freshmen that will contribute and ones that we
are counting on. This is a program; we don’t live in the
transfer portal. We build our kids and develop our players out
of high school, which is why we have been able to sustain a high
level of lacrosse for so long.”
of course, he does use the portal, but in a limited fashion, i
       think.

I would hate to lose some of the good players we have on this
roster as a result of a coaching change but we have to think
long term in regards to this. Does Geno exhibit the qualities on
and off the court to take this program to consistent success in
the CAA and onward? My feeling is no based on consistently poor
roster construction, limited engagement with the community and
       inability to recruit locally.
That being said rooting for this team this year. Excited to go
to the FINAL(?!) home game of the season this Saturday against
Hofstra. I encourage all of the forum to buy tickets as well if
you already haven't. The boys have been fighting hard all year
and deserve our support in person Saturday.

I'm not planning on going to the game on Saturday, but given
that it is the final home game, that means Seniors will be
honored (guys definitely not coming back). So, we'll find out
if TSM and Policelli have any eligibility left. I'm assuming
that Fitz is a one and done and will be honored. Please report
back on this, as the ceremony is usually not covered on the
       stream.

I wouldn't be surprised if T.O. transferred but I would be very
surprised if he did so because Geno was fired.
I understand the adverse circumstances against his tenure but I
have little faith that Geno can build and maintain a competitive
team at the CAA level, and would encourage the admin to move
       on...

lots of minutes suddenly for muratower. got to think that means
fitz is not returning (or is undecided?)?
PS- it's 6-1 SBU, because we havent taken a three yet
