Re: Game 25: vs Monmouth, 2/8 6:30pm

Let’s say we’re the Knicks. To start the season, our big
offseason piece like Brunson bows out (Clarke). His running mate
in the backcourt, let’s say Barrett, goes down too (Noll). A
promising young player like, say, Quickley is done (Frey), and
so is a big time athlete like Toppin (Philip). You don’t have a
G League to tap in to, you can’t make a trade, so instead you
roll into Philadelphia tomorrow with Randle, Robinson, Grimes,
uhhh Fournier, and Sims. And it would surprise no one if that
team won 20 games and was drafting in the top five the next
year. Gut a football team or a baseball team and the same thing
happens.
Lose one guy, it’s an excuse. Lose four guys, it’s a reason.
Roberts isn’t on the end of the bench like he should be. He’s in
the starting lineup. Muratori isn’t redshirting. He’s playing
meaningful minutes. Policelli and TSM are looking around the
court at a team that played almost zero Division I minutes last
year.
It’s the same old song and dance that nobody wants to hear but
it should resonate.
It’s not a defense of Geno. It’s explaining why we suck. All
this said, I would like to volunteer my services to be on the
search committee.

I agree, too many injuries to overcome. Add a PG and Frey and SB
is at least top-half and competitive in the CAA.

This year especially I'm coming to terms with college sports
being the most demoralizing sports to have a bad year. All the
pro sports you can at least sell yourself on a high draft pick
or selling at the deadline for prospects. A bad year in college
kills the fanbase, hurts with recruiting and donations. All we
have to hang our hat on his 1 tournament trip and the fact the
got the arena done before this downturn. With the right guy,
this could be a successful program again but I'm really
beginning to miss the program building we enjoyed under Pikiell.
Geno has been able to get talented players in the door but
hasn't built any continuity. Is it really a coincidence or "bad
luck" that all 4 of our season ending injuries were to first
year guys with the program? New system, new equipment, new
coaches. All these could lead to an increased probability of
injury. I know transfers rules have made continuity tougher to
have in a program but we can't expect to have any form of
consistency when we have a brand new starting 5 every year.
If we are lucky enough to part ways with Geno my two top
criteria will be a coach with a track record of program building
and local ties. Fingers crossed.

Not sure what you're referring to but it seemed like Geno threw
multiple players under the bus. Not sure if that's standard for
college BB coaches...to me sounded like he's saying "we
practiced it" (dont blame me) "we didn't execute it" (blame
them)

I don’t watch these postgame interviews enough to know whether,
after a stinker, this type of language is commonplace. On the
surface though, it’s not a great look. Maybe I’m being soft. But
it sounds like somebody who believes his job is very much in
jeopardy, if not already out the window.

I'm sure Geno reads this board and is feeling the heat, now that
Twitter rumors are starting to circulate. Flo captured Heilbron
behind the bench on a couple of quick snippets, and he had a
concerned look on his face as well. With Heilbron's contract
up, the disaster of the Priore extension prior to the worst
football season in history made by Heilbron, and now Ford
bottoming out in his next to last year, we'll see where McGinnis
goes. Her chance to make an imprint on SBU sports. Change at
the top highly recommended, as I cannot recall an SBU coach who
was fired prior to completing his contract; does SBU have the $
to buy out Geno's contract? I just remember Fiore getting
canned, and that was for reasons other than performance.

I thought he’d get to finish out his contract. But the way the
team is regressing and bottoming out this year Helibron might
feel the heat to make a move. When you watch these games
Policelli and TSM look like the only guys who can even possibly
put the ball in the basket its demoralizing.
