Interesting: plans to build a Bronze Wolfie Bench/Statue in the
center of campus to become a landmark.
"The Wolfie Mascot Bench will provide a central point for
gatherings, celebrations and spontaneous interactions, and it
will emerge as a rallying point for school spirit. As students
and visitors engage with this iconic statue, they'll forge
connections with the university that extend far beyond
academics, which will foster a profound sense of loyalty and
pride in being part of the Stony Brook family."

Stony Brook University Receives Eleventh Tree Campus USA
Designation
HTML https://news.stonybrook.edu/newsroom/press-release/general/stony-brook-university-receives-eleventh-tree-campus-usa-designation/
Since 2009, Stony Brook has planted hundreds of trees on
campus – most of which were cultivated in the University’s own
greenhouses – through a robust planting program designed to
manage the University’s tree care and beautify the campus. In
addition to planting trees each year, the horticultural team
grows an average of 10,000-15,000 annual plants that help adorn
the campus from commencement through the fall season. The COM
staff also helps plant and maintain all landscapes across Stony
Brook’s campuses throughout the year.

Stony Brook Enjoys a Record Application Year
Nearly 6,200 admitted students and families visited the Stony
Brook University campus on March 23 and April 6 for Admitted
Seawolf Days.
The April 6 Admitted Seawolf Day saw a record number of over
4,000 admitted students in attendance, and while heavy rain kept
some prospective Seawolves away on the March 23 date, over 2,150
students donned rain gear to see all that Stony Brook has to
offer.
Stony Brook received a record number of first-year applications
this year – 55,812 – representing a 12% increase from 2023. As
of April 5, Stony Brook has received the highest number of
applications in the SUNY system for first-year students.
Very cool to effectively name PJ our official college town, but
it would be better if it was more easily accessible. Even the
train station drops you off in the bad area 30 mins walk away
from where the fun is.

Ronald McDonald House Coming to Stony Brook Medicine Campus
HTML https://news.stonybrook.edu/university/ronald-mcdonald-house-coming-to-stony-brook-medicine-campus/
Stony Brook Medicine (SBM) and Ronald McDonald House Charities
NY Metro (RMHC NYM) held a ceremonial groundbreaking event April
30 for a new house to be built on the Stony Brook campus, to
provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for families
of children who are receiving medical care at Stony Brook
Children’s Hospital. Construction is set to begin later this
year with completion scheduled for 2026.
This will be the first Ronald McDonald House located in Suffolk
County, and only the second on Long Island. The other Ronald
McDonald House is in New Hyde Park in Nassau County, located
adjacent to Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
The three-story, 60,000-square foot building will include 30
private bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms for families, a media
center, outdoor playground, interactive playrooms, a community
kitchen providing free meals made by volunteers and fully
stocked pantries, a fitness center, meditation room and laundry
facilities.
The soon to be built Ronald McDonald House will be able to serve
as a respite for patients and families whose infant or child is
ill by offering a place to stay, food to eat, and a place to
rest and recharge that is in close proximity to the hospital,”
said Carol Gomes, CEO and COO of Stony Brook University
Hospital. “There is nothing more cherished than the ability to
be able to focus on the care of your child without having to
worry about daily life logistics.”
