a random guy shouted at me in a store today, what's a seawolf.
i was wearing my SB jacket.
the damage is done. i wish they'd get rid of that, even better
       if it never started altogether.
       anyway happy thanksgiving all.

       last year

This is where Stony Brook will continue shining. I read the New
York Times article two days ago and made me very happy to be a
part of this institution (indirectly as an alumnus - but still).
Stony Brook was made with a vision in mind. That vision has been
and must remain our guide to long term success.

       not be possible.

       I fimrly believe so.
I'm sure the said back in the 1990s that when Stony Brook was
admitted to the AAU it was going to be hard to top that.
and we have had amazing years in the 2000s since then also.
2023 was amazing for the U.
But watch us top that a few year down the line.
Hopefully the private funds keep flowing in. The U has to keep
philanthropy close if we want to get into that elite academic
circle of private/public Universities. All while keeping the
       University accessible/affordable.

The next big step will be a Top 20 public ranking. Former
President Stanley set that goal a few years back. SB is just a
few spots away from that. The $500M from Simons might close the
gap within the next five years. The wild card is whether NYS
will have the means to keep funding SUNY at current levels.

yes. and i think a top 20 is attainable; with 50 states, though
many have multiple reputable universities (think NC, MI, VA, NY,
PA, TX, CA, IN, etc.) we really should be in that upper tier.
58 nationally, of course, is great for us. i feel like the
forum members here always knew; it was a visibility issue
       otherwise.
