       Shawn Heilbrons contract
       By: guest441 Date: February 3, 2023, 10:30 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Has Shawn Heilbrons contract been extended or is he working
without one? If he is working without one is an extention being
worked on or is he going to be let go after the semester? There
are big decisions that have to be made and geno is just one of
them. Is the president letting Shawn make that decision after
       what he did with football?

What is the story on his contract? Its almost August. Why the
awkward silence? Since he is still here it is likely there has
been another very quiet contract handed out.

It hasn't officially been announced yet but it appears Shawn has
been extended retroactive to the end of his last contract.
That means he would be entering the second year of a three-year
deal. There's obviously more to the story and we're trying to
get at it, but he'd have two years to get something going.
I get the feeling that a lot of people have been cut some slack
due to COVID and are now being given a chance to see what they
can do in a post-COVID world.
You can argue that some of those people underperformed before
COVID, what makes anyone think they'll do any better after?
You can also argue that it's unfair to judge performance during
COVID unless your job was to deal with it directly.
And then more questions come up...
       - Who do you replace him with?
       - Who among those qualified wants the job?
       - How much do you trust a Stony Brook selection committee (and
there would be one) to make the right choice?
       - How long would it take for the process to complete its course?

Not excited at all about that... but somewhat expected tbh.
We need someone new. We need a Jim Fiore type guy without the
       sexual advances.
It still pains me till this day that the guy screwed up a
program that he was leading so well because he couldn't keep his
mouth and hands in check. Freaking shame.

Another secret contract has been handed out.
How do you explain James Madisons success during covid and
afterward? How do you explain the success of the other schools
in the conference during and after covid? SB athletics is really
       milking covid as an excuse.
They need an AD who can grow the program and put fans back in
the stands. Heilbron promised excitement around the program with
football leading the way. They peaked in 2018, with kids
recruited by Priore while Fiore was still there. The top
administrators in the department have proven they cant do the
job and one is probably protected by the state since he has been
here most if not all of his career.
The expansion of the stadium in that other end was already
funded by the state before Heilbron got there.
The university has done everything it can to chase fans and
season ticket holders away so you all can try to explain and
accept the decisions to extend the football coach and AD and
keep putting your energy there quietly. Or you can be a loud
voice of encouraging change and not accepting these decisions
which have driven a once very good department and programs into
the ground. The new indoor practice place is not attracting
talented football recruits. Remember that promise?

I tend to agree. COVID affected all schools, everywhere. It was
a level playing field in that sense so I don't know that giving
any coach or AD a "pass" makes sense. Same thing with injuries.
Unless your starting QB or conference-leading RB gets injured,
well...every team has injured players. It's part of the normal
course of events and shouldn't be used for excuses.

How long are you going to keep blaming the old AD for SBU
athletes failure? There comes a point in time where SBU needs to
step up to the plate and admit they made a mistake by hiring SH.
Shawn is a nice guy, granted, he is. But he sucks as an AD. And
his priorities is obviously not to make SBU a better sports
team. But more about transitioning sports into the new NCAA way
       of Wokeness. Prove me wrong

I just genuinely miss an AD like Jim Fiore man. I even spoke to
the guy while I was there several times. Pisses me off the way
       things ended.
I was fortunate to be a student at Stony Brook during those
golden years where there was excitement to watch CFB/MBB at SBU
Yeah, I completely agree that SH has proved to be terrible hire.
He hasn't connected with the alumni, donors, and hasn't created
a buzz/hype around the programs like Jim did. I wouldn't have
       given him an extension.
It can all be summarized as lack of interest in athletics from
top to bottom. That's the bottom line. I don't think the top
administrators care as much as SSK and JF did. We'll continue to
be mediocre department for a while...

Our daughter played there. No, I would not knowingly send my
child to a school with that going on but maybe you have missed
the qualifier everyone has placed on the former AD when they
talk about how well he did and how well he grew the athletic
program when they have referenced him.
its sad to see SB extending their AD since he cant raise the
money he promised (which was a factor in our decision to send
our daughter there to play) and the poor hiring decisions he
made. he hired the swim coach. He caused the post season ban
keeping our kids out playoffs. And since there has been no
official announcement about his extension its kind of obvious
that they maybe arent proud of it. like with the football coach.
