It's never too early to think about establishing position on the
conference table, and this feels like a big one for both teams
who are looking to take root in the upper half.
After this weekend, we hit a soft spot in the schedule, where
it's not inconceivable that we'd be favored in four of the five
games (more likely 2 or 3). Hofstra's sitting at 5-2 in
conference, William & Mary's 3-3, but then the other three are a
combined 0-18 (somebody will have won by then). Even if we drop
the next two games and win the games we're supposed to, that
leaves us at .500 in mid February, which I think most of us
would have taken before the season and definitely would have
       last month.
Telfort is still the primary offensive weapon for NU, hitting
the (way too easy) go-ahead jumper with five seconds left
against Delaware, which proved to be the game-winner in an
absurd game. They were down big against the Blue Hens (and I
chickened out on ML +360 live [emoji35]) but battled all the way
back in part due to a ridiculous 45-19 advantage on the glass,
including 20 offensive boards. That is a bit of a calling card
for Coen teams and we'll have to hold our own like we did in
Boston a couple weeks back in what was an eye-opening win at the
       time.
Their guards leave something to be desired, but Pridgen may be
trying to establish himself a bit. Against UD, he put up a
14-and-14 double-double to go with three blocks in his first
career start. Beyond that, maybe Cormier picks it up. He was a
three-star recruit who allegedly chose NU over power conference
schools, a note that I'm skeptical about. I could see King
turning into an Andrew Garcia type.
I doubt that Northeastern strays too much from its typical
script, but when they did pressure us late in our first meeting,
we did not respond particularly well. Also, we can't expect them
to shoot 6 for 30 from three again. They're better than that,
and I don't know that lackluster effort was necessarily because
of the way we defended either. Both notes are worth keeping an
       eye on.
For us, I'm curious how Pettway's role develops. I feel a little
better about our scoring depth with him getting good minutes.
He's shooting .485 from the field in conference, best on the
team. Sarvan's at (gulp) .261, including 2 for 12 from two, but
he's tops in blocks and second in boards so we'll take his
       presence there.
Alarming stat of the day: We've only forced 27 turnovers in the
last four games, including just four against A&T. You have to go
back to the 2015-16 season for the last time an opponent had as
few as four, and since then, on only a few occasions had
opponents had single digit turnovers in back-to-back games,
never mind four consecutive, five of six, and six of eight.
Let's get some deflections and see if we can turn those into
       points.
Alarming stat for the year: We're down 225-130 in points off
       turnovers.
Maybe even more alarming stat for the year: We're down 138-60 in
fast break points. I know we slow things down, but that's less
than four a game for us. The only time we won that category was
a 3-2 edge on Drexel. Yet another example of nothing coming
easy, but it's that kind of year.
But numbers are just numbers. We're really competing, and you
have to like that. This one's yet another toss-up, as the line
indicates. And I really could see it going either way.

agreed on pettway. % is high because he takes high % shots.
others are low because they take low % shots. to me, that's
obvious. the play by play last game agreed. ;D
yes, sarvan is becoming more efficient (as is the policeman) but
with 75% of attempts behind the arc, which is a lower % shot for
him, we lose games like the one we just lost. team avg is 49%,
opponents are at 45% and hit a higher % of course.

Winning that AT&T game would have meant so much for our
conference standings, especially since we led for 95% of it.
       Sigh.

I’ll be honest I can’t get over that game. Instead of 3-2, we
would have been 4-1 and been near top of the standings.. and we
should have won that game. It’s a game where I been thinking
about since Saturday. From the pettaway missed free throw to
Frankie’s missed lay up.. and the misses shots inbetween.. still
       can’t get over it. Sucks.

Will be tough to get the sweep but hope the team responds after
letting a golden opportunity to be second in the league slip
       away.

Really liked what they did with the red out. Always hated when
we'd get Albany or Vermont at home during the winter break. Now
we have a a tool to get folks out for a big game that falls when
       class isn't in session.

Vegas has NU as 2 point favorites. Seems like a good opportunity
to put a few boxes of ziti on the seawolves to win.

Geez with the looks on how many tickets are left tonight, I’d be
surprised if we get 800 people there tonight
