Re: Game 17: vs Drexel, 1/12 7pm

Man, that was about as good a night as I can remember at the
Fed. That game had everything you could ever hope for in a
night, between some big dunks, the back-and-forth nature,
national TV, the crowd and the drama at the end. Just awesome.
I did not think we had that in us. I just thought Drexel's
guards were getting anything they wanted in the paint. Bergens
*killed* us in the second half and I thought they went away from
that. Meanwhile, it felt like House didn't have that many
touches and Williams wasn't much of a factor either.
And for us to be plus-11 on the glass? Just wow.
Offensively, we hit them with so so many back cuts; we were
looking for them on every possession and hitting on so many of
them. We settled very very rarely. TSM was getting to the hoop
and knocking down mid-range shots, and it felt like it was with
or without Williams in the paint. I wasn't watching off the
ball, but was he drawn to the perimeter by Fitz? I feel like I
didn't sense his presence defensively – zero blocks in 30
minutes!
Pettway was gigantic on both ends. He had the three after
Sarvan's hustle play that started that 12-1 run, and then his
two buckets at the end were so needed. For a team that lacks
athletes I'd say, the dimension he adds going to the basket is
very welcome.
Just a glimpse of Nahar. DNP-CD it looks like for Muratori.
Make your free throws, kids.
Great night for the program.

with fitz off the floor we could be a bit more physical
defending in the paint. our rebounding has been excellent
though.
speaking of off ball. on outside shots, fitz properly moves
from the low post, with his back to the shooter, sliding to the
high post, boxing out drexel's bigs. i havent seen us do that
since the warney days. 3 ORBs. he was trained right. let's do
that more.
pettway was fantastic, in somewhat limited touches too.

Ford said in the post game that they intentionally wanted Fitz
to shoot from the perimeter and open look he got to draw
Williams out of the post. Same deal with Sarvan when he was at
the 5. Think it really cleared the lane for us. Really like that
Fitz can make the free throws too. He's 13/14 from the line in
conference games, good for 3rd in the conference.
TSM actually managed to get 2 minutes off the court tonight.
Think if Pettway can continue to be consistent they should be
able to find TSM more minutes off his feet. Too difficult to go
40 every night with the Thursday/Saturday schedules. Interesting
note for Pettway, in conference play, he's 7/8 for the line,
7-14 from 3 and 5-10 from 3.
NC A&T will be a really good test. They've lost their first two
home conference games but they were to Charleston and UNCW. Also
managed to sneak a win on the road against Hofstra.
Overall, excited to feel like we actually have a season in front
of us.

Watching it live I thought TSM got a very lucky bounce off the
rim but watching the replay it was a very nice shot with good
touch. A friendly roll, but I would not call it a lucky shot.

Just watched on dvr recording. What an outstanding college bball
game against a strong Drexel team. TSM and Policelli showing
their leadership, with Pettway hitting big shots down the
stretch. Super big win. My only criticism is that we are in
desperate need of a point guard, although Roberts and TO are
playing to the best of their abilities.

With Roberts, you will get the occasional turnover because of
trouble handling the press, though I think he will improve in
that regard. What you don't get are early possession long-range
three's and hero-ball drives to the basket.

I agree, although he had that one early-game hero-ball drive
that sailed over the backboard. With him specifically, he
dribbles too much at times which gets him in trouble, and other
times he sometimes picks up his dribble unnecessarily. But
baptism by fire; he’s learning every game. Just wish we had more
experience at PG. Overall, just a verify gratifying win tn.

That was a true Potsie, for those of us old enough to get the
