Monmouth's entry into the CAA has gone about as poorly as it
could have. Bad losses, worse losses and many of them. Of their
defeats, seven were by deficits of 25 or more. Statistically,
they haven't done anything well offensively, ranking fourth to
last in the country in points per game (59.4) and in the bottom
10 in shooting percentage (.391). They've tried to turn it
around with one of the most inexperienced teams in the country
too, having—get this—only a single transfer on the roster.
But it's gotta get better ... I think. Monmouth came in one spot
behind us—one point behind us—in the CAA preseason poll. King
Rice hasn't had too many bad teams down the shore, and
definitely not in the gutter like this. You may recall that, the
same year we made the tournament, Rice had them beating UCLA,
Notre Dame, USC and then-good Georgetown – while turning a blind
eye to their bench choreography (not my thing:
  HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIy0eLodpls).
       Notable numbers:
       FG%: Monmouth .392; opponent .500
       FT%: Monmouth .623; opponent .708
       3-pt%: Monmouth .278; opponent .401
Yeah. They can't score. And it's difficult to win when you have
so few shotmakers. Collins is their only real perimeter threat,
and he has had games with four or five makes from deep. That's
it though. No one else on the team averages one make a night
from behind the arc. By contrast, we have three players who
average two a night, and have had seasons where we've had as
many as five. Foster has the best numbers on the year, but he's
pretty limited, and I think will be even more so with our rim
protection. If anybody was to pop off, I'd guess it's Ruth, who
had 21 in the win over Manhattan and a couple other 16-point
       nights.
What they've lacked this year as well is as concerning—cohesion
and, even more so, competitiveness. From what I've read, it
sounds like a theme. Granted, when the losses mount, and they've
been as bad as they've been, I could only imagine it would
       damper one's motor.
They'll also be shorthanded as Tahron Allen, who was a key piece
in their lone win, a solid win at Manhattan in early December,
one of the few days they did shoot well.
Bottom line: we have to respect our opponent. We aren't in any
opposition to look down our noses at anybody, especially in
their gym and as they look for a splash win (relatively) in
their new conference. And, oh BTW, KenPom has this is as a pick
'em essentially. No cupcake. I love the direction we're going
though—simplifying the game, getting it into our big, who just
so happens to be a terrific passer. It used to feel like TSM was
our only reliable source of offense, but Pettway's emerged,
Policelli's knocking down shots, and Fitz is a presence inside
and out. The latter is such a pleasant surprise. And he can
       knock down FTs. So nice.
       LFG.

Thank you. Not one of my better ones TBH. There's just so little
to say in Monmouth's favor. The offense has not been fluid and
no real individual talent—that I can see—to worry about
erupting. We have had bad teams bite us in the past because of
like Will Darley, Sam Sessoms, that other chucker from
Binghamton whose name escapes me, all of whom could fill it up
on any given night. MU just hasn't been able to muster much.
       I know I downplayed +/- ... but here's our +/- to this point,
showing eight of the 12 Division I games. Mostly meaningless. We
all know who our guys are.
       -10 Clarke
       -11 Heiden
       -13 Pettway
       -22 Frey
       -24 Onyekonwu
       -32 Muratori
       -44 Policelli
       -44 Roberts
       -59 Fitzmorris
       -60 Stephenson-Moore

Good opportunity to grab a win and get towson at home. I wish
that next cbs game was during classes so a lot of students could
come out. If TSM Policelli and Fitz keep doing what they are
doing with the other role guys adding in I like our chances
against most teams. The injury chaos has also forced Geno to
coach and run an offense not just iso ball.

God Monmouth is terrible. I never understood what they brought
to the table and I understand it even less now.
Still, I don't want this to be a trap game. Yeah we just won on
the road but we have to do it again and not get too cocky about
       facing a terrible team.

I have no complaints with Geno this year. From what I've seen
the offense seems disciplined with good ball movement and fewer
       wasted possessions and rushed shots.
