First five minutes are huge. Let’s hold the line.
Policelli on the glass is just something I didn’t see coming.
It’s awesome. On pace for another career high.

great effort tonight. FTs were amazing (15/15). good on the
boards too. and with 8 players, some of which we know are hurt.
WVu plays a very physical, violent game. in the second half
they put on an intense full court press that we had trouble
with. rarely seen it that executed that well.
they killed us with transition threes in the second half. ok so
they were missing a starter. id say we hung around for 70% of
the game. and when you consider what we've been through, that's
great.
i couldve done without some of the wild, ill-advised, airball
threes, but i say that every game. GO SB

Proud of the squad today. I think this team can still make some
noise when healthy. Feeling so much better about this team than
a month ago

Okay, so we lost, but it's been a while since we've competed
that well against a power conference school, not since 2019
against Virginia I'd say.

Some quotes from some WVU players..
“It was pathetic,” WVU guard Erik Stevenson said. “Just a bad
performance as a team. No disrespect to them, but we should beat
them by 40.”
“This is called a trap game, that one game before Christmas,”
Toussaint said. “No disrespect to them, but it’s a low-major
team. it tests your mind. It was ugly. I’m glad we came out in
the second half strong.”
Happy the way we played and competed, even with our short bench.
Does anyone know who Clarke doesn’t travel with the team on away
games ? I also feel that Leon is getting close to being back.
Seems like Frey is still in the boot.

There were so many times when I was sure the deficit was going
to grow to 20-25 points, which would have been very
disappointing after the way we played the first half. But the
guys really battled, to the point where you wondered if we could
really make WVU squirm. But alas, a couple bad shots maybe, one
killer turnover on an entry pass, a Mountaineer make, and we
have to settle for a moral victory. But hey, our KenPom jumped
seven or eight spots.
Check out these quotes from the WV side:
Stevenson: "It was pathetic. Just a bad performance as a team.
No disrespect to them, but we should beat them by 40. We didn’t
help ourselves when it comes to metrics and numbers, but a win
is a win. I’m going to take it every time. I was pretty hot at
halftime and pretty hot after the game. I’m not pleased with it.
Those are a trap game and they’re never easy to play."
Toussaint: "This is called a trap game, that one game before
Christmas. No disrespect to them, but it’s a low-major team. It
tests your mind. It was ugly."
Huggins: "We don’t pass the ball to open guys. We give up
straight line drives. We don’t rebound the ball. We foul
excessively even when the officials tell them stop fouling or
they’ll blow the whistle. They continue to foul. It’s an easy
way out."
More Huggins: "How smart do you have to be to say, 'Hey these
guys can make free throws, we probably ought to stop fouling
them.'"
Still more Huggins: "You play that bad and you’re more excited
about going home than you are about getting better, you probably
ought to stay home."
Low major? Don't call us that ever again. 8)
One of my favorite plays of the season was when WV comes out of
halftime, Bell comes out of a screen (if I recall) and gets fed
right under the basket. You're thinking "of course they spring
somebody free for an easy two" but NO, Fitz with a monster
stuff. Oh there it is on Twitter
(
HTML https://twitter.com/StonyBrookMBB/status/1606083652277768192).<br
/>So now looking back, I see they got a three out of that
possession, but still, Fitz is a much-needed presence around the
rim—not as good as Otchere talent-wise obviously but he stays on
the floor and is much better offensively. The latter has been a
very pleasant surprise; his jumper's a little awkward but it
goes down.
15 for 15 from the line. It's the third most FT attempts in a
game with no misses all time. We were 19 for 19 against UNH in
February, and 16 for 16 at Vermont in 2016. TSM is up to .894,
good for 31st in the country. He has a long way to catch Anthony
Jackson for the season-best at SBU. Jackson went 59 for 63 in
the 2013-14 season.
I'm really happy for Roberts and Pettway. The latter has been a
really nice spark offensively, and although Roberts isn't
stuffing the stat sheet, you can feel him making a difference
out there. Better than McKenzie? It's debatable. I'm sure both
of their minutes will be sliced with TO's return and Clarke/Frey
not far away I don't think, but I'd be surprised if they were
relegated to mop-up duty going forward, particularly Pettway.
He's the one guy who you feel like can (and wants to) blow by a
defender and finish at the rim.

roberts' ball handling on the clear has been huge, especially
with our guard injuries and the full court presses weve seen.
he's sunk a few shots too.
pettway was good yesterday. he's athletic, so is tobyO. put
some weight on those guys and we can add some spark. add that
to the bigs and maybe i revise my 3 win prediction. ::)

thing! ;D
