I feel like this is an important trip. Yes, the season's still
going to come down to conference play and the CAA tournament,
but just like we are, the team has to be at its wit's end with
the injuries, the short bench, the apparent lack of firepower,
the razor thin ice that we're skating on in terms of viability.
We'll be sizable dogs in both of these games, and it's possible
we won't be favored until the new year, save for the Sacred
Heart game at home. We all know that Miami Hamilton win is
bogus, and even if we've hung around the last two contests, they
weren't the results we were looking for.
If it's tight, we still don't know anything about how this team
is going to close—when the opposition speeds us up, when it's a
one-possession game, when we're milking clock, when we need to
make free throws, etc. In our first three games against D-I
competition, we've held a lead in the second half for all of 16
seconds. I think just how this comes together in tight
situations is really unclear at this point. I am wary of it
because, frankly, offense has been difficult to come by, with a
lack of proven creators and inexperience in the backcourt with
       Clarke out.
It's amazing that, after all these years, we still run into Nick
Guadarrama, he of a million games at UNH before he moved south
to FIU (which I had no idea about). They also have Austin
Williams, another all-AE player who came down from Hartford, and
we've even seen Pinkney from Quinnipiac before. They bring much
needed size and experience at the D-I level, and their
contributions are less in the scoring column than everywhere
       else.
The real talent is in their backcourt, led by Jones, who I feel
like is going to be a problem. He was a big-time scorer in
junior college, and before that high school, where I contend
that 36 points a game is good no matter where you played. He
didn't get a nod for the pre-season all-conference team, but
he'll end up there eventually, maybe this year if he keeps the
current pace. From what I can tell, he's more steady than
anything else, a sturdy 6-4 wing who might give off Demar
DeRozan vibes. I'd imagine this would be TSM's defensive
assignment ordinarily, but it makes sense that we go zone and
keep him out of early foul trouble.
Of course, that leaves us vulnerable when a team's able to move
the ball effectively. We've more or less given URI and Brown
wide open threes, and I feel like we'll stay in the zone as long
as we can even if threes are going down. This lineup just isn't
built to defend wing players or stretch 4s, and on the other
end, I worry that we lack explosiveness too. Fitz, Muratori,
Policelli, Sarvan, it's hard to imagine them attacking the rim
with any regularity, and I'm not sure the guards are ready
       either.
FIU's schedule hasn't really given off a ton of intel, but that
they stayed with Bryant suggests to me we're going to have our
hands full. One telling stat though: they racked up 20 steals in
their two D-I games, with NC State being one of them. These
guards are going to get after TO and Roberts, and I hope that
they can keep their composure and get into the paint.

Only optimism I have for this game is FIU has allowed opponents
to shoot 46% from 3 so far this year, good for worst in the
country. Hoping Sarvan gets back on track tonight.

I think you have to subscribe to conference USA to watch
       tonight's game...any other options?

0-6 to start the game...forget I asked. Sarvan is not afraid to
shoot the ball...I have to say I respect his confidence.

Won’t win a game with these guards. End of bench players.
       Pathetic

I feel silly to admit I am following the game on ESPN
gamecast... losing- 14-3 just over 11min. Another "we battled
       hard" kind of game

Might be the first season in a long time I stop following the
team. Or until geno is gone. Might be one of the worst teams in
       d1.

Agree. I just don’t see how we can be competitive with this
team. The impending return of Clarke and Frey isnt doing it for
me either. Just a lot of holes on this roster.

A 33 point loss to a team with a 250 RPI. How can basketball and
football both be so bad in one year.

I was spared with seeing this by a Cablevision outage in my
area. Had to pay for the game anyway, so win-win for me.
