Bit of a quick turn so a few random thoughts going into tomorrow
night, with no regard for transitions.
First off: Winnable game. Let's go get it done. That said,
Brown's 0-3 and I feel like they're due. They'd have won at
Loyola (MD) if not for shooting 11 for 30 from the free throw
line. They played Colgate tough, and you just saw Colgate pummel
Syracuse yesterday. Brown's result at UVM was unimpressive but
it also took a career night from Aaron Deloney (32 pts).
And I have to think that their free throw woes (.517) even out
over time. These same players shot it far better last year, and
the team numbers are much better if you take out Kalu Anya's 3
for 13 effort. It feels like an Otchere situation where you
might have to hide him in crunch time. He looks promising
though, with the ability to shoot it or put it on the floor, or
bang inside. I wonder if he ends up like the kid Tamenang Choh,
who was awesome for Brown for seemingly forever.
I'm curious how we go about things defensively until Clarke and
Frey come back, and Nahar someday. We flat-out do not have
enough guys suited up to really get after it I don't think, so
are we going to ride it out with the zone? URI's threes started
to fall and we flashed some man D, and I just don't know that we
can expect a 2-for-11 first half from every opponent, or for our
roster as presently constituted to chase athletes around the
floor. Brown ought to be able to shoot it OK, particularly
Lilly, who made 40 percent of his threes a year ago. Wojcik
too—he was actually a bit player in Loyola Chicago's Sweet 16
run a couple years ago.
I thought that Geno did a great job with substitutions in the
URI game, making sure that we had a good mix of players and
balance of strengths/weaknesses on the floor at all times, also
with riding Muratori when he had the good stretch in the first
half. Of course we're in a very precarious position should
injuries or foul trouble arise, which I think is where the zone
helps too. That's why Policelli and TSM are so key, with TSM
showing the ability to play down low or up high with the zone,
or Policelli playing the 3, 4 or even 5.
In the URI game, I thought we saw Fitz getting into the flow
better, we saw TO really dialing it up a notch going to the
rim—and Brown doesn't have a ton of rim protection, and the size
they do have is all young. TSM looked for his shot more, which I
like. We need that. And Pettway, heck, I did not see this
coming, in part because I didn't know even be on the floor. But
we need guys who want to go score in ways other than firing up
threes, and that's Pettway it seems. Muratori? Not bad. He looks
to be a better athlete than I expected, even if neither he nor
Fitz seems like dominant forces on the glass or defensively even
with their size. But still, I feel like he's Petrasesque, which
I'm good with as a backup.
In general, I just thought we looked like a better basketball
team in the two away games than in years past, and definitely
better than I expected given the injuries.

Does anybody have time frames on the return of Clarke, Frey, and
Nahar?
As Checkmate noted, playing with fire with only 8 players (9,
with Heiden). And agreed, need to take the ball to the hole
more. And let our 7''ers post-up some. Reduce the # of 3's
taken by half.

We came in as a 7.5 point dog but I see it's down to 7. I'm on
the fence; I suppose I'd take the points if I had to.
The four new CAA teams are 3-9 with wins over Edward Waters,
Regent and Miami Hamilton. Otherwise, goose egg. And from that
group there have been losses by 48, 47, 41, 38, 37, 36 and 27
points. [emoji15]

Watching Geno's squad launching three-after-three is frustrating
enough without having $$$ on the line. ::)

Geno and his threes is interestingly like Priore and his three
runs and punt. They must be share notes.

Geno and Priore are similar in that they seem set in their
ways...Priore- ground-and-pound and "defense wins championships"
and Ford - high volume three's and DIY drives to the basket.

muratori and pettway look good.
for other players, if they arent gonna hit shots, pass the ball,
take care of the ball, or play defense, id reduce the minutes.
conventional wisdom.
energy is good again, and we are in this game, despite a short
bench. GO SB

It’s early in the season, but I’m really hoping we’ll get more
out of Sarvan. 4-24 FG, 2-19 from three against D-Is. Liability
defensively. Ordinary on the glass.

This is the first lineup that has worried me.
