Question #10: What if this season is bad, even really bad? With
unprecedented midseason player departures, no postseason
appearances, I would say modest fan excitement, and just one
year left on his contract, would SBU move on from Geno Ford
after the season? I think it has a chance to be really bad, and
the preseason poll supports that. Maybe I'm wrong—I really hope
I'm wrong—but on the surface, this is a tough group to have your
livelihood depending on. Nice guy but not a good coach from what
I can tell.

Funny, you should say that about Geno while I'm reading the
coaching bios. What do you think of the Dan Rickard Bio on
their website? Are they pumping him, and is he the heir
apparent?

Maybe. But for me, it's tough without any head coaching
experience, or any high major experience as an assistant, to
step into a head job at the CAA level. Even the optics of that
aren't terrific. Then again, coach's undergrad son is on staff
so maybe anything goes here.
If we go .500, is what Geno's done so far enough to fetch an
extension in Heilbron's eyes?

I don't think Heilbron has high standards to justify giving
extensions if the rumors about Priore are true
Ford is in a make or break season as far as I'm concerned. SBU
has different priorities however and its impossible to know what
they are doing nowadays. Department seems clueless.

If this season doesn't work out, I hope they let him go just
because it's hard to imagine it'll get any better with this
being a completely new team. Generally Ford's inability to keep
our best places at Stony Brook is what's been the biggest
problem. The talent has been here...and it's left. Also that
might be a reason to think they might surprise this season. I do
think he's done a decent job of getting pieces here.

I thought trusty Shawn Heilbron gave Geno Ford a 5 year contract
extension last year. Why would he let him go?
History has showed this school rewards coaches who are under
achievers.

Driving into work yesterday and I couldn’t believe when they
said let’s welcome stony brook head coach Geno ford. If you skip
to the one hour and 40 minute mark, that’s where the interview
is.
Geno says 2 freshman guards will most likely be starting on
Monday. I’m thinking it’s Toby and Frey

Wow, good find. Sports Rage? Sports Grid? Who knew?
Nothing on TSM and modest remarks on Policelli. I got "elite
shooter" and then a lot about his personal characteristics, so
I'm curious if we see marked improvement. But hey, we like
shooters too.
I do feel bad for Geno in that Noll and Clarke aren't available.
It's hard to compete without quality guards, and TO and Frey may
be that eventually, but I have to think it'll be tough in the
early going.

When Craig carton was going through his issues, sportsgrid
hired him and he did his show everydya on sportsgrid. I think it
got 100 viewers a day lol.. but after that sportsgrid has been
getting bigger and they’re on SiriusXM.. yesterday morning I’m
driving to work and almost spit my coffee out when I heard Geno
lol

geno said aaron clarke is "iffy" for florida, if that helps.
might be better to sit him for a non-conf game this early.
everyone's new, season is long. do we even know he's better
than the freshman, etc.

This feels like a lion's den situation for us – I'd lay the
points if I had to. I just don't know how we compete with guards
that are so green (TSM excluded). Last year we lost by 25 with
Jenkins, Olaniyi, Roberts, etc., and we don't have anyone that
proven on the roster. I just don't know how we score, whereas
Florida has all this established talent. Lofton is just a huge
get, and he's going up against TO and Frey? Tough matchup.
Besides Policelli and TSM, I'm hopeful that Fitz really shines
with 20-25 minutes rather than just the scraps at Stanford.
Has there ever been a bigger dropoff in opponents from games one
to two than at Florida and then home to Miami Christian?
