but that's out of context. if the dept was for example out of
cash, folding the program next year, dropping a division, etc.
then in context, it makes sense.
you're assuming your interests and priorities are aligned with
the U.
in other words- you're looking at it very myopically and not
from their point of view. since we dont know their point of
view, we can't. we can only surmise. and so it's hard to
understand why these things happen.

if their POV after seeing this 2-9 season and the few seasons
before this is: we need to keep this terrible coach, then their
POV is 100% wrong, full stop, and they should not be allowed to
have any position of power at Stony Brook

i just think that there is so much more to it, that coaches and
administrators know, than us armchair quarterbacks know. that's
all. they know their profession better than we do; just like
you know yours better than they do.
if it doesnt make sense, there's probably more to the story.

Respectfully, step back and look at this athletics dept under
Heilbron. Both basketball and football have been horrible in the
recent years. No other university in the country would keep this
AD employed after he extended the football coach to begin with
this season and then keep the AD and coach after 2-9. That is
not armchair quarterback. Its common sense. Look at the top
players in the portal now. They don't want to play for Priore
and Heilbron is the reason Priore will be here for what two more
years?

Respectfully, you need to step back and look at the athletics
department. Heilbron got us into the CAA. He raised the money,
and built the indoor practice facility. The Priore decision
feels insane (and hopefully Heilbron reconsiders) but his tenure
has not been all bad.
I personally suspect it's that Priore has been here for a long a
time and that the big time donors are fans/friends with him. I
know Priore worked with Dubin's son in high school before he
went to play football at Harvard etc. My theory is, and has
been, that there could be a financial cost to cutting ties with
Priore - not that I agree with the decision.
tl;dr I agree with chairman

Heilbron was able to spend Dubins money. Why Dubin is still
associated with athletics is a mystery given his other endeavors
with Eppstein. Heilbron got his athletes banned from
championship play with the horrible way he handled the CAA
thing. And from what I'm hearing SBU will not see revenue from
the CAA for years. Ask about the details of that arrangement. He
hasnt been able to raise money and attendance is down at mens
basketball games and football games. Fiore would have done much
more in the last 8 years than Heilbron did. You know it and i
know it. You want to keep these guys then keep them but the
program is at a lowpoint since becoming divisionone.

Your right. I am looking at it as a fan. Myopically or not the
two main programs are at alltime lows since becoming division
one. We know that the president and Heilbron extended Priore.
Look at basketball. Look at attendance for both sports. Look at
records for both sports. Where's the bright side?

I'm not even sure how much credit Heilbron should even get for
us being in the CAA. He didn't do anything special - we would
have gotten the invite with or without him as AD.

You are 100 percent right. He got us banned from championship
play screwing a lot of kids and coaches.

I would actually argue he should/could have gotten us in there
earlier. Especially if we were able to get the basketball on
track and actually compete with Vermont as we should have been.
Look at who they added along with us. Monmouth? NC A&T?
Campbell?? Not powerhouse brands whatsoever.
One could just as easily say the CAA expansion was reactionary
to JMU leaving as opposed to proactive based on our performance.
He's underperforming.

It's a shame Fiore wound up being such an ass. We'd probably
have the FBS football program we want along with several other
things had he not been a complete fucking idiot and do what he
did.
