Checkmates pregame is awesome to say the least. I deeply
appreciate the effort he puts into it.
Checkmate thank you! Cannot wait till next year

I 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th that. Big question I have, is will CoB
and EcasadoSBU, our board administrators, have enough in the
budget to give Checkmate that deserving CAA raise?
As an aside, you know what would be really cool addition, is if
CreateAForum.com supported real-time Group Messaging so that we
could all chat in real-time during the games, and elevate our
blood pressure. Anyone know if there is some sort of plug-in to
do that?

a great idea (not the compensation, the chat function).
we have 15 online right now (logged in) and 352 members, many of
which are transient. i wonder what happens to our #s next year.
either way this thread is a great example of how we want our
forum to be. i hope it doesnt change.

Gentlemen, thank you. This thread was not meant to be about me!
But thanks. Being on the beat (of sorts) helps me be a more
knowledgeable fan, and I'm glad it has fueled your interest in
and conversation about the program. It also whets my appetite to
write about sports—no place better than a newsroom. I could do
this all day. I was happy to stumble upon this board however
many years ago and am happy to pitch in.
Looking ahead, do I know anything whatsoever about places like
ELON? That would be no. But we'll (all) get there.
While Geno and Co. do their recruiting, let's do ours too. Can
you find one friend to join the board? Contributors are good;
readers are good too. There's gotta be more hoops junkies out
there.
I really think we can ramp this up even further, especially with
our recruiting scope greatly broadening. And dare I say, some
day, at-large talk.

I personally would love a group chat. Being a St. John’s fan,
they have a group chat on Twitter called “Detes” and it’s always
great to watch games and read the messages during it. Not sure
if everyone has Twitter but would be a cool idea if createafourm
doesn’t have a feature like that

We could use some free outside messaging systems like IRC,
Twitter, etc., but I think that would defeat the purpose. We
have lots of great content here (legacy and current), and we
wouldn't want to replace this forum or lead people away from it.
That said, I did some searching on the CreateAForuim.com site
and came upon this link, where add-ons can be purchased. They
offer a one-time $30 option for a chat-room on this following
page:
HTML https://support.createaforum.com/upgrades.php
They have a Demo page for Chat, but it doesn't take my SBUfan
forum login, so I cannot preview it. I would want to see how it
works and if/how it integrates with our current forum before
buying, but if it was any good, I'd gladly cough up the $30.
Do the Admins here (CoB and ecasadoSBU) have the ability to
preview the demo using their SBU logins?
EDIT: P.S. Sorry to be pitching this idea in this thread. If
anything comes of it, I'll start a new thread.

I 100% agree with you, don’t want to take anything away from the
forum. I love the forum and enjoy reading it daily

Thank you, Checkmate, and thank all of you, for allowing a West
Coast Seawolf feel like he's back on campus again.
I wish I were more optimistic about the direction of the
program, but I'm just not. However, I'll still be here on the
boards, and I'm sure I'll still have unbridled excitement by the
time Game 1 starts of next season.

I follow a couple of different boards and the ones with robust
game threads are unbearable. There's a lot of emotion on the
regular fan boards, but the game threads in particular seem to
bring out the worst in knee-jerk, over-the-top reactions and
criticisms. People say things maybe they wouldn't if not for
getting caught up in the "now" of the moment. Personally, I find
trying to type distracts from my focus on the game, but I've
never been much of a multi-tasker.
