points? Or is there something wrong on the inside—a coach, a
player, a program, et al?

Agreed, 100%.
I called this last year how I saw dark days ahead for this
program, and it's happening now.
This school is so secretive about what's happening on the
inside, we are all just guessing what is going on. No
transparency. No communication. No state of the Athletics
department. No anything.
If SBU wants to be so secretive about everything, then fans will
be quiet when it comes to attending games.

If only the Statesman had a competent Sports Editor who actually
asked important questions, had real sources, and tried to get to
the bottom of the issues going on in the program. Damn shame
that Ethan Tam is a mouthpiece for the athletic department and
kisses the asses of the players and coaches.
Geno Ford has made a mockery of the team. I don't care how many
games he's won. He's alienated the team three years in a row.
There's no denying that. Just look at how many players "leave"
every year under his watch. It's an embarrassment. It fucking
sucks. And while I was never a fan of the team, even when I
attended the school, It breaks my heart to see my alma mater
have such massive issues all across the board in athletics, but
especially with Men's basketball. Clearly, they the athletic
department hired the right person to lead the women's team after
McComb's left for GW, but what the fuck happened when Boals left
for Ohio, other than the school tried to keep Akwasi (HA) and
thought promoting an assistant would keep him around. That
failed miserably on two fronts. Embarrasing.

This is the time for sweeping change. It’s been obvious
for a while that Ford can’t coach, let alone lead. With
move to CAA imminent, what other sign does the school need to
fire the coach. Right now is the time to bring in a new face,
someone who is competent and didn’t get fired from his
previous HC gig unceremoniously. Whole thing is pathetic.

Internal promotions rarely work. The women’s team didn’t do it
and they are a machine right now. Stony brook should have tried
for a young hungry power 5 assistant when it had the chance not
a mediocre re tread.

But good win by the guys who decided to go out there and
compete.

I second a young hungry p5 assistant. I also really like Bashir
Mason from Wagner. He has bright future. Being in the CAA should
make Stony Brook HC position more attractive to young bright
coaches.

its so odd... feels like we've hit bottom. but how many
programs hit bottom at 16-11?
i have to wonder which is the worse scenario- being 4-23, or
this. i'd say this.

Feels stagnant yeah the roster has holes mainly interior paint
presence but anyone watching can tell this roster and its
players are not being optimized the way a Vermont is.

obviously too early to look at next year- especially given the
transfer craziness and players leaving our program.
guards: pettway, tsm, roberts, roberts, onyekonwu, greene
bigs: muratori, nahar, pollcelli, diallo
does christie have another year? anyone else? i think at least
2 spots are open. i dunno, so hard to tell.

What a fucking mess.
What kind of “oral surgery” takes you out for six games in the
first place? Did Jenkins get smacked in the mouth with a ball
during practice? That story sounds so fishy.
If you told me Rodriguez was transferring after this season, I
could see it. He wouldn’t want to be a bench player after being
the team’s leading scorer last year. In the middle of the
season, though? Some senior leadership.
The jury’s already out on Geno as an in-game coach: he sucks.
Now it’s clear he also sucks at managing a locker room. Even
still, to think if it wasn’t for the AE ban we would have easily
won 20 games a year in 2 of his first 3 years anyway. He still
can if we win out. But with the amount of talent this team had,
he still had us underperform.

Speaking of players who left Geno – Mo Gueye had 27 and 12
against Georgia Tech last night. Boy did we really need him this
year.
