CAA Expansion/Realignment
By: iBOsbu Date: February 17, 2022, 6:28 pm

Looks like after adding Hampton, Monmouth and us, CAA expanding
further by adding NC A&T.

Now I understand CAA wants to limit travel by creating
north/south divisions of 7 each, but 14 members? For a one-bid
league? Who will be the 14th member? Howard? Fairfield? UNCG?

The odds of SBU making it to the NCAA in all sports is more
difficult now with so many teams competing in the CAA. I hope
they split the conference in half and have to auto bids.

Bryant to AE to replace us. It seems like a done deal. They will
be parking their football at Big South like Monmouth and us
previously.

NCA&T doesn’t add anything to this conference but appeasing the
southern states. Moving past 12 teams is irresponsible for a
one-bid league. I also don’t like the Hampton add. So scrap NC
A&T and Hampton, find a better 12th would have been my ideal
plan.
A 14-team CAA is not great. Still better than the America East,
though.

I don’t think it has anything to do with being from southern
states but more likely virtue signaling by admitting two HBCUs.
I don’t see any athletic advantage to adding them.

Agreed. I think it is a huge mistake and will only screw other
teams in the CAA, but I see why they are doing this. The CAA
wants to get a couple of HBCU schools into the conference.
Probably be proactive and ahead of another conference because of
what is going on in America lately. A total sham and total BS
this is even becoming a topic and people running scared all over
the place. Welcome to the new WOKE America people!

In that case, I would have been fine with Howard, since they are
the “Harvard of the HBCUs” (and even higher ranked academically
than Stony Brook on some sites!). But Howard must not have
wanted in on the CAA despite being right in Washington DC.

It is not about HBCU. CAA wanted 7/7 north/south divisions. The
southern members demanded it. Stony Brook obviously knew of the
plan and still joined. Hampton is in CAA because W&M wants them.
CAA approached UNCG and other SoCon schools and they said flat
no and increased their exit fee. So next best teams from south
are in Big South conference. NCAT is probably the best of the
pick from them. Big research university which is growing
rapidly. Probably will be R1 soon. Packed football fans. Poor
bball. Don’t be surprised the last one is from Big South
too. Probably Winthrop or High Point or Campbell. We are in this
knowingly, intentionally and I still prefer this to AE. I would
have preferred 12 teams: 6 north and 6 south. But it is what it
is. Again better than AE.
And please leave your Fox News BS about Woke in your leaving
room. Let’s not turn this forum into political
shitposting.
