The only legal recourse is that it wasnt applied to Hartford.

Apparently, leaving D1 for financial reasons (and not moving to
another D1 conference) met the requirements to stay in the post
season. BU precedent, along with some other conferences doing
this, unfortunately prevailed.
Women's basketball certainly gets screwed big time, men's
basketball denied an opportunity to potentially play UVM in the
finals, baseball gets screwed, and women's lax has the pressure
of knowing that they can't lose any games that they are
"supposed to win".

This is bush league BS that only the low major leagues do. You
don't see the Big 12 banning Texas and Oklahoma from winning
conference titles because they're leaving for the SEC. This is
childish BS that only low tier conferences do.
Only time we have to deal with this BS from the AE. I hope
adding Bentley, Merrimack, CCSU, or whoever the hell they wind
up replacing us with is worth screwing over our student
athletes. Hopefully the LAX teams play well enough to earn
At-large bids.

The situation is quite different in one-bid leagues. Even though
I'm sad I totally understand why they are doing it. Why promote
a program that will be representing another conference in the
near future, especially when you only got one bid to shine? We
also knew the rules and there was definitely precedent when
banning BU in the past. The only thing that slightly pisses me
off is that Hartford should've been banned the same way (it
shouldn't matter whether you are going to a DI conference or
downgrading to DIII conference)
The B12 in the other hand makes a ton of money, is a multi-bid
conference, and is better of by keeping Texas/Oklahoma in the
running in the tournaments. In the B12's case they should
probably milk Texas/Oklahoma for as much as they can. Banning
Texas/Oklahoma from Tournaments when they can easily get
at-larges bids will probably just hurt conference tournament
attendance and ratings.

It definitely sucks, but thinking about it some more, the AE is
losing one of the best (if not the top) overall franchise in the
Conference in Stony Brook, so they're very pissed off about
that. Additionally, when it comes to winter sports, Vermont
Men's Basketball is the AE shining star, currently ranked at #77
in Kenpom. What if Stony Brook somehow beat them in the AE
Final up in Vermont? Vermont would be royally pissed off that
Stony Brook was allowed to play (and beat them), and who knows,
that could provide the impetus for Vermont to leave the AE.
Also, the AE wants Vermont to go to the big dance, since they
could easily get a #13 seed, which gives the AE the best chance
for a tournament win (and prestige to the AE conference). The
AE wants Vermont winning the conference and going to the dance,
point blank. They could care less about student athletes; it's
all about saving a drowning conference, and not pissing off
Vermont, IMO. I think Men's Basketball drove this decision, and
you can bet, that the UVM President voted against Stony Brook.

Lose the battle to win the war. SBU will be better suited to
playing in the CAA for all sports. Everybody knows this.
Let's see what the courts say about this ruling. I have a funny
feeling SBU wins this and can play in the championship game.
More for the WBB and WLax. amd quite posibly Baseball too. I
believe MBB doesn't have enough strength to make the
championship anyways.

Well, There you go. SBU voted for htis in 2012. They dont stand
a chance.
Newsday!
The America East Conference announced Wednesday that Stony
Brook's athletic programs would not be eligible to compete for
conference championships and the automatic NCAA Tournament
qualifying bids that accompany them.
The ruling comes after Stony Brook accepted an invitation in
January to join the Colonial Athletic Association starting on
July 1, 2022.
The America East constitution allows the remaining members to
determine if a departing school will be eligible to compete in
championships for the remainder of its tenure.
The ruling effectively ends any chance for Stony Brook's men's
and women's basketball teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
As of Wednesday morning, the men’s team (13-7, 5-2) was in
second place in the America East and the women’s team (17-2,
8-1) was in first place. For either team to receive an at-large
bid to their respective NCAA Tournaments is a longshot.
The conference’s announcement said the decision to rule the
Seawolves programs out was "unanimous" and that Stony Brook was
an America East member that in 2005 supported adding the
constitutional article that allows remaining members to exclude
a departing member.
Stony Brook athletic director Shawn Heilbron issued a statement
saying the school "plans to review all options, legal and
otherwise, to address this decision."
The America East announcement said, "This decision was not made
lightly, and the Board of Presidents recognizes that some may
disagree with it. The Conference has an obligation to prioritize
the remaining members who are committed to the league’s
advancement and the student-athletes who compete at those
institutions, now and in the future."

Take this with a grain of salt, but this was posted by a UA fan
on the Basketbalforum.com site:
" I can 100% say, factually (and I will not reveal how / why I
know this) that SBU did NOT have to announce this until May. In
fact, the plan was for end of June. For whatever reasons, and I
have strong suspicions but no evidence for this piece of the
puzzle, they chose to announce it now. The difference between
SBU and Monmouth/Hampton was that those schools had been
preparing for this for months and had also worked out deals with
their respective leagues.
SBU's admins flubbed this...full stop."

Can the women's team qualify for the NIT? And maybe the men's
team could qualify in one of the smaller post-season
tournaments, assuming there are any this year. Not ideal, but
there's incentive for the women's team to win the conference,
and for the Men's team to shoot for 22-25 wins this season.

Is this McInnis' redemption arc? TBH I'm shocked at how vocal
she is being.
