Press conference to announce the move should be tomorrow. I'm
excited. Looking to see if the CAA brings on other teams for
2022-23 or if it's just us, Hampton, and Monmouth for now.
Finally onto bigger better things. It's not the A10 or FBS move
a lot of us want, but I'll take it.

“Stony Brook has accepted an invitation to join the Colonial
Athletic Association, according to a university official, and
the move will be announced by conference commissioner Joe
D’Antonio on Tuesday morning. The official requested anonymity
because the formal announcement had not been made.
The move will put the Seawolves in the same conference as Long
Island rival Hofstra, not only raising the stakes on their
annual men’s basketball game but adding a second meeting each
season. Stony Brook is expected to begin competing in the CAA in
the 2022-23 school year.
The Seawolves already play football in the CAA. The rest of
their programs currently compete in the America East Conference.
Stony Brook will not be the only school that the CAA adds.
Monmouth is expected to depart the Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference for the Colonial. There could be other additions as
well.
James Madison has announced that it is leaving the CAA to join
the football-centric Sun Belt Conference. JMU has won or shared
the conference title in five of the last seven football
seasons.”

From Ethan Tam:
HTML https://www.sbstatesman.com/2022/01/25/stony-brook-set-to-join-caa/
Interesting bits:
“The CAA added Stony Brook and Albany in 2013 as football-only
members, but the conference had a greater interest in inviting
Stony Brook as a member in all sports at the same time. The
offer fell through because then-Hofstra President Stuart
Rabinowitz objected to the move, citing Stony Brook’s
competition in the Long Island market for media and recruits and
the belief that Stony Brook did not add basketball value to the
CAA. Rabinowitz retired last June.
Hofstra’s current Director of Athletics, Rick Cole Jr., assumed
his position in 2018 and was a former associate athletic
director at Stony Brook from 1995 to 2002.”
.
.
.
“It is currently unclear if the America East will take any
retribution against Stony Brook for leaving the conference. When
James Madison went public with their move to the Sun Belt, the
CAA voted to ban all the school’s teams from competing in
postseason championship tournaments, citing a conference by-law.
However, James Madison similarly voted to ban Old Dominion from
championships in 2012 when Old Dominion left the CAA for
Conference USA.
The last time an America East school departed for another
Division I conference was when Boston University joined the
Patriot League in 2012. The school was set to begin Patriot
League play during the 2013-14 season, but when the Terriers
announced the move a season in advance, the America East cited a
conference by-law to similarly ban Boston University from all
postseason play.”

Great move for us and our athletic program. I think it winds up
gutting the AE in the process though as our replacements don't
look the least bit appealing, but that's not our problem. I've
seen some salty Vermont and Maine fans get upset that we're
leaving, yet if they had the same invite they'd have taken it
too.
On to bigger and better things!

Great article. A first of its kind perhaps? Nothing in the
article is shocking. The administration has failed miserably
over the years in addressing campus culture as a whole. The
quote from our AD in this article is pathetic. Whether or not
the new Prez will put any legitimate time and energy into this
issue remains to be seen.
