I only caught the last 30 seconds of this one. Thrilling ending.
Glad we got it...
I had no clue who Saint Peter's was and thought we were going to
lose to a Division 2 team for a moment there.

Lucky we won, after multiple end of game chokes. Strong 2nd half
and the defense won the game: Green, Habwe, TSM. As an aside,
that Sam Niederman is a solid announcer, and the SNY camerawork
is really poor having missed some key plays, FT’s, etc.

We were up 64-57 with 1:56 left. Two straight backcourt
turnovers made it a 1 point game for them. Looked like a replay
of UNI-Texas A&M. then we still missed the one and one and
needed luck to bail us out against St. Peter’s.
If we inbound properly at the end, we win by at least 10 just
because then they’d start fouling us. We played much better in
the 2nd half but Jesus Christ.

I was very concerned when they were down 17-7 early because holy
crap, Stony Brook should not struggle at home against goddamn
St. Peter's. It looked straight like a repeat of Wagner, except
Wagner is actually a respectable team this year on KenPom. St.
Peter's is definitely not. Thank God we finally stopped just
chucking threes and actually took it to the rim in the 2nd half,
because I hated the ball movement early on.
However, I still can't believe the ending sequences. Because we
only won by 1 point, this win actually moved us DOWN in the
KenPom rankings, so I'm a bit pissed off. You have a 7-point
lead with around 2 minutes left. They make their basket on their
end to make it 5, 1:36 left. From that point on, we kill enough
clock and score to make it a 7-point game again with 1 minute
left, say they miss their shot, then we get the ball back and
obviously they'd start fouling us. Assuming we make our free
throws, we eventually win this game by about 10-11 points
because they'd keep fouling us.
But instead, we win by 1 point against goddamn St. Peter's. Were
we playing some local church team of high schoolers? St.
Peter's? Execute normally in the end and the final score looks
respectable. Instead, it's a 1 point win over St Peter's.

I too, was upset at our finish, even though SNY missed some key
moments. But St Peter’s is picked to finish 2nd in the maac,
behind Iona. Kenpom has the maac at 20th strongest conference;
AE is 25th. They’re not an offensive juggernaut, but they play
pretty good D. A win is a win, but we were lucky tonight.

Is this a troll post? I don't know what conference you think
we're in (it's worse than the MAAC), or what kind of recruits
you think we get, or what history you think this program has,
but this was an enormous W, no matter the margin.
Here's what's respectable—a really really gutsy win. Shot like
crap, looked disjointed, absurd turnovers at the end, but we
pulled it out. I dunno, guys—that's basketball. That's sports.
It's not always going to be pretty. But we defended our asses
off and made just enough offensive plays to get the W. I mean,
look at that play by TSM at the end, and the mob under the hoop.
You don't think that's a good thing? I thought it was awesome.

Not a troll post, I'm disappointed that the game was even that
close. VASeawolf thought St. Peter's was a D2 school. St.
Peter's is a weak enough opponent that beating them by such a
slim margin made our KenPom go DOWN. We had already went up by 7
with 2 minutes left, I'm disappointed that we turned the ball
over twice in the backcourt to turn what was then a gimme win
into a heart-pounder at the end. It's really just those two
turnovers that annoy me, because if they don't happen, we win by
around 10 points and our advanced metrics go up!
