This one should be a gimmie. But let's see if it is.
Aside from ranking 296th in adjusted defense a few years ago,
CCSU has finished in the 300s in adjusted offense AND defense in
each of the last eight years. That's bad basketball. Even
Donyell Marshall, who spent four years as HC, couldn't rescue
the program. Now the reins are with Patrick Sellers, a CCSU grad
who has bounced around in coaching—UConn, Hofstra, most recently
as Jay Young's assistant at Fairfield—and now he's back at his
alma mater to try to repair what's broken over there.
TBH, I view CCSU as this place that is the last hope for someone
who is hell bent on going D-I, even when D-II is probably the
better option. For baseball, that's kind of like what St.
Peter's is—just a perennial doormat ... but you can tell people
you're playing D-I! For football, it's UMass or UConn.
So what's Sellers working with? The kid Scantlebury's not bad,
but he's also not this guy who's going to take this game over.
Pretty good lefty stroke—and you can see it in the stats—and
he's got some ability with the bounce too. I'm guessing this is
JRod's assignment defensively and we move a rangier defender
over if need be. Scantlebury kind of reminds me of Isaiah
Thomas.
As a freshman and sophomore, Krishnan looked like a real player,
earning All-Rookie honors in conference and then drilling 45
percent of his threes as a soph. Production has fallen off since
then though his jumper's pretty—big elevation. We can't dismiss
him—he's had a few games where he's popped off, including a
17-point night in CCSU's OT loss at Fordham—admittedly a pretty
good result. A win would have been incredible! But other than
that, all of their losses have come by double digits.
Sellers has brought in a few good building blocks, namely Brown,
whose brother played at Pitt, and Snoddy, a good-sized kid who
some of you may remember from St. Anthony's. I'm actually
curious if we see more offense out of Snoddy. He can put it on
the floor, can shoot it, competes, and he's thick so he should
be able to compete on the glass for second chances. Watch his
highlight reel from HS and tell me you wouldn't have signed up
for it.

So there's something positive to point to in New Britain I
believe. And they're playing hard for Sellers. But right now, I
just don't think there's the firepower to stay with us, and with
a very young lineup, you're going to have kids competing against
men. And they aren't overly athletic or physical, meaning it's
more of Greene, Roberts, Habwe, etc, snaring rebounds in
traffic—and we aren't big either.
We've won two in a row, and it'd be great to keep our foot on
the gas against a vulnerable opponent. We did it against
American and I suspect we'll do it again.

Thanks Checkmate! On paper, this looks like it may be an
easier-than-normal win, but who knows.
I have been pleased at the way we've been moving the ball the
last 2 games. Both Jenkins and Roberts have been both better
distributors and also guys not afraid to take the big shot.
Given the fair amount of scoring distribution of late, will the
return of Sayles and Olaniyi (supposedly going to happen soon),
upset the apple cart in terms of sharing ball and getting shots?
I'd rather have them on the floor than not, but particularly
with Olaniyi's return, I'm concerned that they may have to learn
how to play with each other again, as a team. Hopefully, just a
good problem to have.

I think thats a valid concern starting over from a chemistry
standpoint heading into conference play would not be great.

moving the ball well, sharing it, using the clock, heads are up
and looking to pass first more often than not. and so we are
creating offense. shot selection is great.
looks great, just like the last two games but perhaps even
better.
