I feel like we haven't heard much about COVID impacting the
world of college basketball, but it has definitely impacted
Wagner. And we'll see if that fallout will continue on Saturday.
Wagner was the projected winner in the NEC and showed they were
worthy of that billing in the early going, pounding Hartford and
then stunning VCU on the road, winning 58-44, killing them on
the glass (42-24), especially on the offensive end (17). They
really dug in defensively in the second half, outscoring VCU
       31-18.
But then COVID roared in and wreaked havoc. Their games against
St. Peter's, NJIT and Army were postponed. And then a depleted
team returned to the floor after three weeks and hung with Seton
Hall on Wednesday before getting overwhelmed in the second half.
They played the game without Morales, Martinez and Hunt
(asterisked above; status unknown), as well as head coach Bashir
Mason, who's been cleared to return on Saturday. No word on the
       players however.
If all those guys return, we're in for a fight. Morales averaged
better than 17 points a game en route to earning conference POY
honors last year. He entered the NBA draft but opted to return
to school, which was the right move. And I'm all for testing the
draft waters to see where people stand too. He's a really nice
NEC type player—not this elite shooter or athlete but kind of
somebody like Olaniyi with maybe a little more ability off the
bounce. He's a hard worker and does it on both ends of the
       floor.
If he plays, this feels like another showdown spot for Roberts,
and a major test for us. If not, Wagner loses a big piece of
what it does. They just aren't the same team if it's Ford,
Rogers and Co.—I give them credit for playing 20 good minutes
       with Seton Hall.
We have to be encouraged by what we've seen the last two games—a
gutsy road win over a good team and then a thumping here at home
against a bad one. It's hard to predict which way this one will
go without knowing who will suit up. I'd love to see Sayles back
in the boxscore in a big way, and I think they'll have a tough
time staying in front of Roberts and Jenkins no matter who's out
there. Supporting cast—so far so good.
A bit abbreviated today—busy busy. LGS.

Thanks Checkmate. Shame on the Covid effect on Wagner. I’m
hoping that this Omicron variant doesn’t rear its ugly head and
spoil another season and the health of all. Already a detected
case in Suffolk today. Uggh. Let’s hope we can continue our
winning ways and go double digits in Assists again. SNY coverage
       is nice.

Looks like Morales, Martinez and Hunt are all back tonight for
Wagner. So the same team that went and dismantled VCU at their
       place.

Defensive battle the 1st half. Wagner is a real good team. I
thought we played great D the first half. Our shooting sub-par.
Habwe and Policelli missed some bunnies. Our FT shooting must be
       better (1-5).

Wagner isn't better than us, they're much better than us. This
       one might get ugly.

Spot on here. Just so tougher up and down the lineup.

Good call, sbupatriots. 4 mins into 2nd half, and it’s a
blowout. Yes, they are much better than us. Careless TO’s, poor
       shots, and being out-rebounded.

20-2 Wagner run after this. This is shaping up to be the worst
       home loss in memory.

Geno Ford burns his last timeout with 10 minutes left in the
game. Lmfao. He is a hack..

Ok, gonna lobby for Payton Shumpert to get some minutes. Kid can
shoot and has poise. Both in Kansas game and tonight. Don’t know
his defensive capabilities, but I like him more than Policelli,
and has same size. Greene is our only rebounder; like TSM
energy on the boards, and would like to see him get more mins.
