Two preseason favorites going toe to toe. We're in two different
       places at this point though.
Yale already has two wins over top 200 teams, including a
20-point demolition of UMass a couple weeks ago. So they're very
much on schedule. The Ivy League as a whole has been good, with
Princeton beating South Carolina and Oregon State, Dartmouth
beating Georgetown, and Brown playing UNC and Colorado tough.
And to be fair, the AE has had its triumphs too, namely Lowell's
wins at Dayton and GW, and Vermont's nice start to the year.
Meanwhile, while I don't think any of us thought we'd be 4-0 at
this point, nor did I think we'd be a buzzer beater away from
0-4. And the Olaniyi injury casts even more doubt on the
       short-term future of this team.
Yale's got a standout guard in Azar Swain, who played a
game-high 40 minutes in their win here in 2019, putting up 17
and 7. He's the lone remaining contributor from the Bulldogs'
narrow loss to LSU in the 2018 NCAA Tournament (he had 12 in
that one). So we're talking about somebody who's been through
plenty of battles, and was smart enough to stick around at Yale
when its season was canceled last year due to COVID (good degree
to have). He's really really good—just always on the attack,
creates space between him and his defender with nifty handles,
physical enough to finish inside, endless range, an appetite to
score. He's like a thicker Sam Sessoms I'd say.
He's joined in the backcourt by one of James Jones' best ever
       recruits—Cotton, who hasn't dominated like you'd think a
four-star recruit might, struggling with inconsistency, but
nevertheless he's a force. And then there's Gabbidon, who as the
returning Ivy DPOY, I'm guessing will draw Roberts after his
       outburst against Fairfield.
Just like Swain can score inside and out, so can Yale. Aside
from the butt-kicking they took at Seton Hall, Yale has
outscored its opponents in the paint in every other game,
including 42-16 over UMass and 28-16 over a good Milwaukee team
its last time out. They got a lift with the return of Jarvis a
couple games ago, and are now even more formidable in the paint.
Yale's experienced and balanced, so coming out of their place
with a win's going to be tough. With transfers going here, there
and everywhere, it feels like every team is older this year; I
thought that was going to be an advantage for us, even if our
guys hadn't played a ton together. I'm curious if what we saw on
Tuesday becomes the norm—the offense going through Roberts. It's
not often that a guy puts up 30; Elijah did it a couple springs
ago against Lowell, but I can't think of any others post-Warney.
We can't rely on that though. But if not him, then who?
As I said before, our non-conference schedule might not be
loaded with a ton of name schools, but the majority of them will
be over .500 in conference and challenge for a tournament spot.
Good tests for us. This one feels like another one where we're
just a little short on ammunition to get a W.

It's interesting that the line opened up at 9 and is all the way
down to 5.5. Same thing happened in the Fairfield game and it
was a serious bad beat for the SBU backers.

I know hoops takes a backseat on a Sunday afternoon, but the
Seawolves are working Yale right now. LuHi products Policelli
and TSM leading us with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Christie with some really nice minutes in the middle, including
an awesome offensive rebound and putback. We seem to be
answering every Yale mini run with a couple makes of our own.

Policelli playing great as is TSM lot of assists best we have
looked this season hope it keeps going into the 2nd half. No
       jenkins today either.

Anyone know what’s wrong with Jenkins? Is Elijah done for
       season?

Not sure many saw this game but it was by far the best we have
looked this year. Policelli best game of career even christie
played well. Roberts still too much iso ball but if he can hit
clutch shots I can live with it.

Character win. So many big shots. It felt like Yale was on the
verge of making it really interesting the entire second half,
but we kept them at a distance. Big first half for Greene, big
second for Roberts, and Policelli was big throughout. And as has
been said before, really nice day for Christie. Happy for him.
Stat of note: 18 assists. We came in averaging eight. You could
       see the difference today too.
Win Wednesday and we're back to .500.

i dunno, i agree that we looked good but here's what i saw.
we built a near-insurmountable 22 point lead, and yet kept
shooting threes (which reaffirms its a strategy, not a tool),
and then yale quickly cut the lead to 8. adjust for opponent
(meaning, ivies aren't a great gauge to measure against; no
size, no schollies, bad weather, big tuition, tough academics).
yale's offense had twelve points on the board (maybe 13min into
the first half) until this mental lapse. twelve. over the next
10min of play they scored 42 points and cut the lead to 5.
here's another example. policelli hit a late 3 (good), next
play was flat footed and gave up an uncontested two off the
dribble (bad), next play missed a three and watched it rebound
to yale (bad), then it went the other way for a three (bad).
and we won by 5. meaning, we blew a big lead again. we coulda
       lost this one, no?

Agreed on I wish we had more second half urgency and didn’t let
teams comeback. But Yale is a good team and ivy league
basketball is nothing to sneer at. Also im not sure what is
wrong with Sayles but Alex gave us better minutes.

I was out but I was able to actually catch a bit of it on NESN
since I was in the Massachusetts area.
We led 34-12 because Yale started 1-10 from 3. They had open
looks, too. They were bound to revert to the mean sooner than
later and ended the game 10-19 from 3 instead. I knew Olaniyi
was hurt but Jenkins too? Jesus. We weren't going to win by 22
but I wish we showed a little more defensively in the second
half as the numbers don't look great.
