We had 11 guys miss over a week of preseason and that showed
with our sense of timing and purpose on offense. They did a
great job moving their feet and we had a hard time getting past
the primary defender much of the night. We definitely need the
practice time, as we just aren't very good right now. Luckily,
we'll get that heading into our Kansas game. I like our group
and we will continue to get better." - head coach Geno Ford.

Haha, that's quite funny (and unfortunately true). The "will
continue to get better" cliche is so worn out it should be
banned. MOST teams will also get better as the season goes on,
so that's a net zero outcome.

Any chance this game can be chalked up to nerves with fans back
and a new team? Or do we suspect its more structural I guess
only time will tell.

There was definitely some of nerves out there. But two assists
suggest a bigger issue. Way too much one-on-one, too many
stepback jumpers and too many threes early in the clock and off
the dribble as opposed to the higher % catch-and-shoot variety,
and just not enough movement.

Plus, these are kids who have played in countless offensive
systems with so many different coaches, and even if they just
rolled the balls out, they would have figured out something more
cohesive than what they showed. Read and react, drive and dish.
The jazz of basketball.
This was your turn, my turn and more of a collective strategy.
I hope it wasn't.

George Mason just pounded a Penn team that’s supposed to be
pretty good. We’ll really get to see what GMU is made of at
Maryland on Wednesday.
