We looked like we literally had not been coached the entire
preseason, like the strategy was just to roll the ball out there
and see what happens. Zero offensive flow or chemistry. Or plan.
I'm just dumbfounded. What did we just watch, and why are we
paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for that? I don't want
to hear about guys missing practice time, it being a new roster,
needing time to jell, none of it. That was putrid.
The talent was obvious, I'll say that. Jenkins might be the most
electric guard we've ever had. Roberts looks like a good piece.
And we're deep. I'm fine with going 9-10 deep—Habwe, Diallo,
etc. But the sum of our parts far supersedes what we saw
       tonight.
I almost wondered if the plan was to be Bryant—a million threes,
get shots up early in the shot clock, wreak havoc defensively.
But we didn't push the ball at every opportunity, and our
halfcourt offense just looked so so rudimentary. I'm actually
       stunned.

       with that talent.

Ford was horrible last season. What makes everybody think he
can coach now. His coaching record should tell you everything.
       He is a hack!!!
SH continues to keep giving these head coaches long-term, lavish
contracts. Get ready for a disappointing season. Once again.

"It was good to get the year started. We have a lot of new guys
and it's going to take some time to build some chemistry. We had
11 guys miss over a week of preseason and that showed with our
sense of timing and purpose on offense. They did a great job
moving their feet and we had a hard time getting past the
primary defender much of the night. We definitely need the
practice time, as we just aren't very good right now. Luckily,
we'll get that heading into our Kansas game. I like our group
and we will continue to get better." - head coach Geno Ford.
My translation of his comments (tongue-in-cheek):
"It was good to continue right where we left off last year. I
plan on using the 'new guys and chemistry excuse' all year. We
had 11 guys miss over a week of preseason, so we are now looking
ahead to the 2022-23 season to get this ship turned around. We
don't have a guy over 6'2" on the roster, so we had a hard time
getting past the primary defender much of the night. Practice
time won't help, since we're running the same crappy
non-existent offense that we ran last year. We're just not very
good right now, and that's why we're targeting the 2022-23
season to land some more transfers. Who the hell scheduled us
to play Kansas? Maybe it'll snow there, and the game will get
canceled. I like our group and hopefully, we'll go down
graciously when we lose in the AE quarterfinals in this year's
       tournament."
Let's hope this was a low point of the season, as we move
forward. Kansas has got to be favored by at least 45 next week
       one would think.

Haha, that's quite funny (and unfortunately true). The "will
continue to get better" cliche is so worn out it should be
banned. MOST teams will also get better as the season goes on,
so that's a net zero outcome.

       Next day thoughts ...
Yesterday's two assists were the fewest in a game going back to
at least 2015-16, and I'm guessing, if the stats were readily
available, we could easily go back much, much further. Two
assists. Two. By contrast, we averaged 16 a night in our AE
championship season. I'd like to think that last night will end
up being only a major lapse against a superior team, but I
wouldn't bet my bottom dollar on it.
Also, the fewest free throw attempts (4) since a loss to Hofstra
       (3) in 2018.
I did not foresee 10 minutes and no shots from Jaden Sayles. I
know he was hurt, but I'm still surprised. We played small ball
for 30 minutes and it showed. On the glass, it looked like the
Night's Watch trying to take down a giant.
I think we're going to have to give Jenkins a long leash. He's a
special talent, has the ball on the string, can get by
defenders, and will be one of our better shooters, if not the
best. So I'm not going to love all his shots or decisions, but I
think we just have to let him do his thing.
Not enough shots for Elijah in the second half. I feel like
because Jenkins is so ball dominant he's going to lead us in
scoring, but let's see how this thing develops.
Small sample size, but a good first impression of KRob. Looks
quick. It'll be tough to find time with Jenkins and JRod but
       maybe next year.

       Let's focus on the positive:
It's super impressive to play 40 minutes of a high-level
basketball game and only ring up two assists. Just by accident,
you should have about five. Only gathering two assists is a
commitment to a lack of movement and passing that will be talked
       about for years to come.
On a serious note: Forget the excuses. Every team has excuses.
This performance was inexcusable. And I know it's just one game,
but how this team played does not leave me optimistic. At all.

Meanwhile Hofstra was up by 13 against Houston (Final Four team
last year) in the second half, took them to OT before losing.
Without their top scorer playing. Barf. I don’t know how Hofstra
always manages to look better than us.

Again. Geno Ford is a crappy coach. His track record indicates
that. He coached like crap this past season, what makes you
think this season will be any different. There's a reason why
all the players transferred out and Geno now has a team filled
with outsiders. Geno will never recruit from High School. Mark
       my words!!
