For as much of a lethal shooter as he was advertised to be,
Policelli hasn't really delivered outside of the St. Peter's
game. Somehow he ended up with a double double today despite
bricking at least five uncontested 3s. Diallo has also
disappeared after one half. Shame on me for actually getting
excited at the prospect of them having a lead - they couldn't
even make it to the end of the first half with it intact.

yeah. i dunno why we keep wishing for a magical shooter to come
in, hit a bunch of low % shots to carry us to victory, then miss
nearly all, and then we lose any important game because of it.
yes, 4 of those missed threes went the other way- for a three.
momentum killers and an arguable 24 point swing.
some were extremely deep. some were mere seconds into the shot
clock. some were in traffic.
why not try something different now; work the ball around. it
worked for the johnnies- 23 assists and they won by 30.

A couple of bad games, but remember, he didn't play at all last
year, needs some time to get back into playing shape, and being
used to game speed. No matter how many scrimmages he
participated in since transferring, it's not the same.

Hes shooting 40 percent from 3 on the year. I agree he took a
few too deep and was ice cold in the first half but it is his
first 3 actual games. What did you expect him to shoot 50
percent from 3?

Gotta be honest, I thought/hoped Policelli was quicker and more
aggressive than what we’ve seen thus far.
As far as shooting goes, yesterday’s first half was awful - for
a shooter (0/7 FG, 0/5 3PT and 0/1 FT). Geno left him in 2nd
half ( the game was quickly out of hand) and Policelli picked it
up.
We’ll see.

Watched the last 8 minutes this morning, as there was conflict
with the Giants game (OT: great game btw!).
I'll certainly cut Policelli some slack; way too early to make
season projections on him. He does look very slow afoot, but
you are right - he needs time to get back into game shape.
Also, he needs to let the game come to him, and not force his
shot. Diallo looked totally bewildered, but he hasn't seen
competition like this ever before. Overall, impressive first 16
minutes (perhaps showing the potential of this team), and a
really poor back-end 24. Mo and Sayles played very well
yesterday. Hofstra will be an interesting test for sure.

i think Air's point was that he was 0/5 (and even 1/9) at some
point, why keep shooting. consequently, this is exactly when we
blew a 6 point lead. and lost by [edit] 23.
but with that said- sure, it's a new team, a fairly new coach, a
pandemic (short notice for games), and an entirely new squad.
some patience is required. playing with a lead against a
storied program takes experience.

on to good news- gueye is best used in a high post. feed him
the ball, he can pivot to the rim and use the long arms to
underhand layups, sometimes uncontested. the more we do this,
the more we open up the deep attempt.
and, i am cautiously optimistic- i actually think this team is
already more dynamic than last year. they are more patient,
move the ball better, and stretch the floor. habwe moves off
ball. the salesman will get physical inside. greene and JFR i
think with a little polishing will be good.

Absolutely right with mo using his length diving to the rim
should be unstoppable in the America east. It opens up
everything else as well i think this team will really round into
form later on because it is only their 3rd time playing together
and 2/3 games have been against good teams. Bryant and hofstra
are no pushovers either.

Once that backbreaking first-half run happened, I admit to
leaving to go run some errands – between the bad weather
Saturday and then hoops and the NFL on Sunday, it was a pretty
lazy weekend. That first 16 minutes was awesome, but it just
didn't seem like we could sustain a lead with the amount of
giveaways we had. 20 steals is absolutely insane – and would set
an all-time record at SBU (now 18). Our record book doesn't keep
a history of turnovers, but I have to think that has to be close
to a record. We did average 18 turnovers a night and had some
brutal losses in 1999-2000 so maybe there's a 30+ turnover game
in there.
It looks like JFR has an abysmal second half – no points, two
shots, five turnovers. He couldn't have seen
baseline-to-baseline pressure defense like that against Hostos
CC and Harcum College up at Monroe. I'll give him a pass though
– very difficult situation to be in, and without any practice no
less. I do think, though, that it was a good primer for Bryant,
which is a game we should compete in. They really get up and
down.
As bad as it was, it was good to see some kind of ability to
open things up. We won't see a team that talented and athletic
the rest of the season.

good points. in fact, maybe Monroe can become a decent pipeline
for us, especially given how the new mercenary system works in
CBB.
i recall that 99-00 season. hard to watch. light years ago!
i did wonder though- on that full court press- only 3 times did
i see a forward come down, leaving us stranded 2v2. why?
