       > The Seawolves have been a bright spot in early America East
play. The addition of Dylan Pallonetti and Matt DeMeo, plus
established offensive players like Haun and Cory VanGinhoven
have given the team an unselfish identity. Add in Anthony Palma
playing huge at the other end, and it’s clear why Stony Brook is
picked as a leading contender for the title.

be spectacular. Consider how talented and cerebral Jakob
Patterson is, plus the unique combo of skill, physicality and
insane scoring ability that Tehoka Nanticoke provides. Add in a
talented newcomer in Camden Hay, and that’s a recipe for
explosiveness. Nantioke missed the first game, as did several
others, because of COVID protocols, but tweeted early Tuesday
a.m. suggesting he'd be allowed to return to play.

2020. It was a promising year for the Retrievers but under the
radar, as they used a tough D to beat Mount St. Mary’s, Sacred
Heart, Towson and High Point. They were second in man-down D,
sixth in defense and cleared extremely well. And, 30 of 37
players are back — like fifth-year seniors Colin Kasner, Brett
McIntyre and Ryan Frawley. They’re still the defending champs,
technically and a comeback, low-scoring win against Mount St.
Mary’s to open their season was a sign of what they can do.

It was a pleasure getting to write a feature profile on Devin.
It has been great watching his role increase and seeing him step
up as a leader at SBU.
One cool fact that didn't make the cut is that he is the first
Queensbury HS defender and second alum to play D-I lacrosse.

       > There’s tremendous fifth-year and senior leadership on both
sides of this America East contest, so this might feel a little
more fine-tuned than any other games. Both are coming off tight
games — UMBC a comeback OT win vs. Mount St. Mary’s, Stony Brook
a loss in a high-scoring rivalry against Hofstra. A simplistic
way to look at it could be an offensive power in Stony Brook vs.
a defensive power in UMBC — but both have plenty of firepower on
both sides of the ball. One matchup to watch will be in goal:
Stony Brook’s Anthony Palma has been a reason for the Seawolves’
early success, and the Retrievers’ Tommy Lingner is possibly the
best goalie in the America East.
