Dylan Pallonetti, A, Stony Brook: Despite the Seawolves
loss, Pallonetti had one heck of a performance n his first Long
Island Rivalry contest. The attackman tallied a career-high
eight points (5G/3A) to lead the Seawolves’ offense in the
game.
America East: Storylines to Watch, All-Conference, Player of the
Year and More

Stony Brook’s early success
The Seawolves have been a bright spot in early America East
play. The addition of Dylan Pallonetti and Matt DeMeo, plus
established offensive players like Haun and Cory VanGinhoven
have given the team an unselfish identity. Add in Anthony Palma
playing huge at the other end, and it’s clear why Stony Brook is
picked as a leading contender for the title.
Can UAlbany’s attack be stopped?
When the Great Danes get fully going, it’s a group that could be
spectacular. Consider how talented and cerebral Jakob Patterson
is, plus the unique combo of skill, physicality and insane
scoring ability that Tehoka Nanticoke provides. Add in a
talented newcomer in Camden Hay, and that’s a recipe for
explosiveness. Nantioke missed the first game, as did several
others, because of COVID protocols, but tweeted early Tuesday
a.m. suggesting he'd be allowed to return to play.
Don’t sleep on UMBC
The Retrievers have won five straight when you go back to 2020.
It was a promising year for the Retrievers but under the radar,
as they used a tough D to beat Mount St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart,
Towson and High Point. They were second in man-down D, sixth in
defense and cleared extremely well. And, 30 of 37 players are
back — like fifth-year seniors Colin Kasner, Brett McIntyre and
Ryan Frawley. They’re still the defending champs, technically
and a comeback, low-scoring win against Mount St. Mary’s to open
their season was a sign of what they can do.
'Swiss Army Knife' Devin O'Leary Relishes Offensive
Contribution, Too
HTML https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2021/3/3/mens-lacrosse-swiss-army-knife-devin-o-leary-relishes-offensive-contribution-too.aspx
O'Leary has already found his way to the back of the net
once this season — scoring in the team's season-opening 20-8
victory against Sacred Heart. He also contributed an assist
during the "Battle of Long Island" rivalry game against Hofstra
last weekend.
O'Leary's knack for beating his opponents to the ball has been a
big factor in finding two-way success. That has been something
evident since the Queensbury, N.Y-native began playing lacrosse
in the seventh grade, as an attackman.
O'Leary's potential and talent earned him a spot on the
Queensbury High School lacrosse team's roster as a freshman,
albeit on the bench. That did not stop O'Leary from improving on
all aspects of the game to be an asset to the team anywhere on
the field.
"It was a lot of hard work going to the gym and working out,"
O'Leary said. "I remember some nights where it would just be me
on the field with my stick and 10 bright orange balls shooting
at a net."
Now a starter at long stick midfielder for the Seawolves,
O'Leary credited carrying over his two-way success in college to
several Stony Brook alumni, including long-stick midfielders
Justin Pugal and Ryland Rees.
"You don't have to be a captain to be a leader," O'Leary said.
"Coach Gilardi always preaches to do the right thing, not the
easy thing. A big part of being an upperclassmen is taking
responsibility, along with the rest of the senior class, for the
younger guy."

It was a pleasure getting to write a feature profile on Devin.
It has been great watching his role increase and seeing him step
up as a leader at SBU.
One cool fact that didn't make the cut is that he is the first
Queensbury HS defender and second alum to play D-I lacrosse.
Conference play in the America East got underway on
Wednesday when Vermont and UMass Lowell went head to head. On
Saturday, the rest of the conference begins conference play. The
headliner is Stony Brook vs UMBC. The Seawolves come in with a
2-1 record and off a loss against rival Hofstra. They have
averaged 18 goals per game with Dylan Pallonetti leading the way
with 17 points (12G/5A). UMBC comes into this contest coming off
an 8-7 overtime victory against Mount St. Mary’s in their
opener.
Men's Weekend Watch: It's Late April in Early March
HTML https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/men-s-weekend-watch-it-s-late-april-in-early-march/57409
America East
Stony Brook at UMBC, noon
Fan Picks: Stony Brook, 89%
There’s tremendous fifth-year and senior leadership on both
sides of this America East contest, so this might feel a little
more fine-tuned than any other games. Both are coming off tight
games — UMBC a comeback OT win vs. Mount St. Mary’s, Stony Brook
a loss in a high-scoring rivalry against Hofstra. A simplistic
way to look at it could be an offensive power in Stony Brook vs.
a defensive power in UMBC — but both have plenty of firepower on
both sides of the ball. One matchup to watch will be in goal:
Stony Brook’s Anthony Palma has been a reason for the Seawolves’
early success, and the Retrievers’ Tommy Lingner is possibly the
best goalie in the America East.
