transfer Dylan Pallonetti on Saturday in Stony Brook’s

game with six goals and one assist for seven points in his
Seawolves debut. His six goals are the program record for goals

2021 NCAA DI Men’s Weekly Rankings – Week 1 Top 20
HTML https://laxallstars.com/weekly-rankings-ncaa-di-mens-week-1/
Next teams in:
These are the ones with the best shot at making my weekly
rankings in the coming weeks, not in order: Jacksonville, Stony
Brook, Bryant, Johns Hopkins, St. John’s.
Who did I leave out?
Villanova (18), Johns Hopkins (19), Stony Brook (20)
Basically, this is a symptom of the Ivies. Those three spots
would be filled, but likely by two of these three in the 18-20
spots if I had to fill them in. I probably wouldn’t go with
Nova, and I don’t think I’m alone there. Stony Brook is actually
on the hairy edge with only 28 points, but in the “others
receiving votes” of the national poll you also have Delaware,
Albany, St. John’s, Bucknell, Jacksonville, Towson, Michigan,
Hobart, Bryant, and Utah. Needless to say, we’re still in the
wishful thinking part of the ballot process. As more games get
played, we’ll have a much better feel for who’s who on the
field.
Re: SB Lacrosse 2021 Season/ Pre Week 2 Thoughts and Insights
By: KFERMINSBU Date: February 17, 2021, 3:06 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi all, Ken Fermin from WUSB Sports back here with another round
of pre-match insights. I'll also cover some of what Coach
Gilardi had to say in our interview this week.
Firstly, it felt great calling lacrosse action for the first
time in what felt like forever-- even if the stadium was
virtually empty off the field and in the press box. The team
played great throughout the contest, something Gilardi credited
coaches Brazle and Chanenchuk for.
Dylan Pallonetti- The star of the show, set a program record
with a double-hat trick in his debut. He looked even better in
person than on your computer, and played like the most
experienced athlete on the field. Don't be surprised if teams
begin doubling him and open scoring windows for CVG/Haun.
Being Ranked- MLAX has gone from unranked to Top-20 in eight
games under Gilardi... Wow! Coach credited his ast. coaches and
players of buying into the system and the growth from year 1 to
year 2.
Offense- Unsurprisingly, looked great. It seemed like there were
always two or three options available to score on most drives.
11 goals were scored by their attackmen (only 5 if you subtract
Pallonetti's)
Defense- Something the team believes has ‘tremendously
improved’ compared to last year, and it shows. Coach noted
practice has become "much closer" in battles compared to last
season. The bottom three-D's of Cassidy, Sabella and Trenkle
provided excellent resilience against attackers trying to go in
front of the crease. They pushed Sacred Heart over 5 yards away
from the goalie on most drives and prevented several shots from
reaching the goalie. It will be fun watching the trio take on
UAlbany's offensive front later this season.
Midfield- The team is confident they have three full lines that
can step up when needed to complement the attack. Technically,
more middies scored for SB than attackmen (5 mid- 4 Att).
Faceoffs- It may take a couple more games before the refs get
settled with the rule change, but Conlon-Deskewicz played great.
I expect both to continue splitting time in games.
Goalkeeping- Palma preformed well even though he didn't face as
many shots as King. Palma kickstarted several offensive
transitions that led to goals. That is impressive to me,
considering it is something Herbert excelled at doing while
playing for the Chiefs in the OJALL. Nothing is permanent, but I
wouldn't be shocked seeing Palma get the start this weekend.
Also, having two lefty goalies is just a coincidence, but it
does help the team prepare for games against other left
goalies-- like this weekend v. Bryant
Facing Bryant- They dominated on the attack vs SB last season.
Coach noted the Seawolves will have to match their opponents
physical gameplay and aggressiveness to win. One key should be
to avoid allowing the Bulldogs from going on big runs
Bryant's best playmaker is probably Logan McGovern, who had 1 G,
4A v. Providence. He probably delivered the second-best
performance by a redshirt-freshman last Sat., behind Pallonetti.
The team will have to also watch out for Mac O'Rourke-- if he
plays. He can shoot and score from almost anywhere in the
offensive zone .
Remember to tune in to WUSB Sports as the Seawolves take on the
Bryant Bulldogs this Saturday at LaValle Stadium. Pre-game show
begins at 11:45 AM.
