10 Players Primed For Breakout Seasons in 2021
Wayne White, M, Stony Brook
HTML https://lacrossebucket.com/2020/11/30/10-players-primed-for-breakout-seasons-in-2021/
White is a known commodity amongst America East circles.
Starting a few games per year during his first two seasons, he
was, essentially, one of the Seawolves’ top reserve midfielders
as a freshman and sophomore. Looking to be a full-time starter
for the first time in his career in 2019, White fractured his
right foot in practice following their season opener and missed
the remainder of the year. He came back pretty strong last
season, tallying seven goals and six assists in seven games. He
started all seven contests. We should see it all come together
for White this season, as the redshirt freshman will be one of
the Seawolves’ top offensive threats and, for the first time in
his career, be a full-time starter for a full season.
A Look At Each Second Year Head Coach Heading Into 2021
HTML https://lacrossebucket.com/2020/12/08/a-look-at-each-second-year-head-coach-heading-into-2021/
Anthony Gilardi – Stony Brook | 2020 Record: 5-2
Outlook: After a stint as the offensive coordinator at Towson,
Gilardi shipped up to Long Island where he accepted the task of
leading the Stony Brook Seawolves, which is one of the best
programs in the America East. The main thing that everyone will
be watching is whether or not Gilardi can get Stony Brook back
to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. Judging by
last season, that is very much achievable. Stony Brook went 5-2
last season. They earned wins over the likes of Brown and
Rutgers and their only losses came against Fairfield and Bryant.
Coming into the 2021 season, the Seawolves are expected to be
one of the top two teams in the conference, along with UAlbany.
With eight fifth-year returnees, in addition to the number of
talented underclassmen on both ends, many feel optimistic about
this squad coming into 2021. And America East title game
appearance is and should be, the expectation for Stony Brook in
year two of the Gilardi era.
In addition, an America East men’s and women’s coach were
exploring full schedules including non-conference games, which
would likely be played before the conference season started in
March. One potential move, at least in women’s, was to create an
open week in April for a non-conference opponent.
Tom Haun Enters Final Season Already on Program's Top-10 Goals
List
HTML https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2021/1/25/mens-lacrosse-tom-haun-enters-final-season-already-on-programs-top-10-goals-list.aspx
STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Tom Haun attended his first Stony
Brook men's lacrosse game as a 12-year-old, when the Seawolves
hosted Virginia in the NCAA quarterfinals in 2010.
Tewaaraton Award finalist Kevin Crowley set the program's
single-season goals record in that heartbreaking one-goal defeat
against the Cavaliers as a standing-room-only crowd exceeding
10,000 packed Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Five years later, Brody Eastwood eclipsed Crowley's
single-season mark with 62 goals.
Eastwood owns the program record with 181 career goals, followed
by Jordan McBride (175), Kevin Pall (133), Mike Rooney (132) and
Crowley (131).
Haun's next goal will match his former teammate, Alex
Corpolongo, for ninth on the all-time list at 95.
However, with an extra year of eligibility gained by last season
getting halted seven games into the schedule, Haun instead is
enrolled in a one-year, 36-credit MBA program while completing
his college lacrosse career this season.
As for his memories of attending his first Stony Brook game back
in 2010, Haun said: "I had no idea what it was going to be like,
because I was still new in lacrosse at that point. The whole
stadium was packed out. We couldn't get any parking. It was a
close game and the student section was going nuts. It was a
really cool experience."
Haun later learned that current teammate CJ Trenkle's older
brother Timmy played in that game, and that current teammates
Tom Dugan and Connor Grippe as well as Trenkle also were in
attendance as fans during that NCAA quarterfinal. Dugan, Grippe,
Haun and Trenkle, as well as fellow fifth-year player Chris
Pickel Jr., are the Seawolves' 2021 co-captains.
Rubin interviews Coach Brazel:
HTML https://stonybrookathletics.podbean.com/e/the-howl-s2-e20-jp-brazel-stony-brook-mens-lax-associate-head-coach/
-tentative 2/13 SHU
-rest of non-conf schedule to follow
-starting defense returns (Trenkle, Sabella, Cassidy)
-freshmen defensemen are progressing well (Conk, Henry, Alfano)
-sounds like Palma will start in cage
-Matsuoka left due to the draft and an injury
-SSDMs largely the same (Estrella, Dugan, Morrell)(perhaps J
McMahon and Reda too)
-depth all around
I assume this means LSM will be O'Leary, Lowd, Ronan.
