That’s the budget they need to operate that’s one of the reasons
JMU hasn’t made the jump exactly what that entails but I know
for sure it’s $5M

One thing I can tell you is SBU spends a lot of money on
recruiting and the reason they offer all these 3 Star players is
to build a relationship with the kid so if in the event they
decide to transfer they will remember how hard SBU came after
him in the onset and reach out.
Another thing there are really good HS Football Players that to
get on the field faster go DII/DIII they can now do that and
then reach out to an FCS Program and transfer up to them.
One last thing I believe the yearly budget for FBS is $5M while
FCS is $2M and that doesn’t include Coaches Salaries.

Tyler Devera and James Tunstall. Both 3-stars out of HS, offered
by SBU, chose Maryland and UConn respectively. The time came to
transfer, and once again SBU came calling, and this time, the
Seawolves got em.

That and they feel as though they're "too good" for the FBS
conference which has been floated as a possibility. They don't
want to go Sun Belt or C-USA. Personally, Sun Belt is underrated
and a fun conference to watch. JMU won't get a better offer, no
matter how good they play. Success there could be parlayed into
a move up in conference, but that would take time and more
money.

I wonder, had the new Transfer rule was in place when they
decided to transfer to SBU, would they have gone to another FBS
school. Assuming they had the offers.

Devera also held an offer from Memphis. His brother was a JUCO
player at the time and committed to Memphis but something
happened and they pulled the offer. Might be why Tyler chose SBU
instead. Tunstall, to the best of my knowledge, didn't hold any
other FBS offers when he decided to transfer.

The Sun Belt offered them in early 2014 and they turned it down.
The Sun Belt at the time was far and away the worst G5
conference. JMU wanted to be in CUSA with ODU. Hindsight is
20/20 of course, but now the Sun Belt is soaring coming off a
year where it had two teams in the top 20 and CUSA is
struggling. There won't be any expansion of the G5 unless moves
by the P5 force it to occur. If you read their fan forum, JMU
fans are mad as hell they didn't take the FBS invite when they
had the chance and are pissed at their administration for lack
of leadership. You don't build that big ass stadium they've got
to stay FCS.

Fact. I agree. One would think that JMU is kicking themselves in
the ass now for not taking that invite. But that wasn't the case
back then. JMU fans were so cocky, they thought the American
Conference or the Big12 would come knocking. NOTTTT!

They've had discussions with Sun Belt since 2014. Nothing major,
and nothing super public, but it was discussed for a brief
moment. As for JMU fans, they're an amazing fan base, but are
terrible to everyone who does not like their team. Kinda like
Eagles fans. You just hate them.

I know Coan had a good season last year and did well in the Rose
Bowl, but To be honest. I dont think he is good enough to be a
starter for the Irish. I don't see how he can do well against
the likes of Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama. I'll be cheering for
him because he is a local guy.
