Army Corps of Engineers to place canvas tents at Stony Brook,
Old Westbury

The two temporary hospitals under construction at Stony Brook
University and SUNY Old Westbury are set to open by April 19,
with all but 100 of the more than 2,000 beds in canvas tents,
Army Corps of Engineers officials said Wednesday.
All 1,038 Stony Brook patients will be housed in tents, as will
900 Old Westbury patients, with the remaining 100 Old Westbury
beds in a gymnasium, Embrich said.
There typically are only 53,000 beds in hospitals statewide, but
up to 140,000 are needed, Cuomo said.
Cuomo appeared to express concern about staffing at the
temporary hospitals, saying that “you will run out of staff
before you run out of beds.” He also said the hospitals would be
used only “if you max out your bed capacity.”
A Cuomo administration official said Friday that the staff will
come in part from medical professionals who have responded to a
state call for volunteers.

I wonder when the NCAA will cancel fall football.
I could see them cancelling it. I can't imagine the NFL being
cancelled though. No way. At worst they play in empty stadiums
on TV only (which is the case for much of the league anyway lol
;D )

The big $ sports carry the unprofitable sports to round out the
field during good times. If the big $ sports revenue is
slashed, we're going to see lesser popular sports slashed, and
you will see some schools cut programs like football/basketball
altogether, a la Hofstra and football. Just another fallout
from these unprecedented times.
P.S. As an aside, as we hit recessionary times, a lot of private
schools in general will fail to survive economically, and I
expect some to shut their doors inevitably. With unemployment
expected to hit 15%+, and with no target for return to normalcy,
expect state schools like Stony Brook to become even more
competitive to get into. However, with state funding almost a
certainty to be cut, look for Stony Brook to cut budgets at
large, including athletics.

I hope this gets rid of the really bad small schools that are at
the bottom of D1.
If Stony Brook’s budget gets cut, they better protest and make
the state cut the irrlelevant SUNYs first.

I hate to say this but we are NOT in a recession, we're in a
depression. When you have 40% of GDP wiped out that's
depression.
Emperor Coumo couldn't balance a budget in the best economy
since the Industrial Revolution. What do you think he is going
to do the NY in a depression. Huge cuts across the board for
everything and everybody. He already started with cuts to NYS
employees. April 1st all state employees were supposed to get
their 2% raise. Well, that is cut and gone.
I am expecting some sports to be cut for SUNY schools. Like I
said last week. I wouldn't be surprised is Football will be on
the chopping block, and that would suck for SBU and the
community that supports and donates money to the school for
athletics.
The way things are looking now, the NCAA will most likely cancel
all Fall sports programs. That could actually be a blessing in
disguise. All coaches , staff, and admin should be Furlouged and
not get paid for 1 year. If they leave and find other jobs so be
it. EWU head coach already announces he is taking a pay cut,
voluntarily. Temporally suspend all sports and save the
University millions of dollars.
Maybe by suspending all sports programs they will be solvent
enough for next season and not have to eliminate any sports
programs going forward.

College Coaches Oppose Waiver Request That Could Threaten DI
Non-Revenue Sports
HTML https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/college-coaches-oppose-waiver-request-that-could-threaten-di-non-revenue-sports/56338
College coaches of non-revenue sports are aligning to
oppose a proposal that could threaten the existence of many
programs throughout NCAA Division I and are trying to build
awareness and support on a short timeline.
According to a message from Robert Kehoe, College Programs
Director for United Soccer Coaches, last week, commissioners
from the Group of Five conferences (AAC, Conference USA, the
MAC, the Mountain West and the Sun Belt) submitted a request to
the NCAA to be granted a relief waver on Division I membership
requirements that included reducing the number of minimum sports
required to sponsor in order to maintain DI membership, which is
currently 16.
