Some additional thoughts to your thoughts:
- Yes, better than the first round loss last year, but a win
tonight would have made it a successful season, with a winnable
game at Vermont. Failure to take advantage of the #2 seed,
makes it just an OK season at 20-13;
- Our offense is really stagnant. Lots of hanging around and
dribbling around the perimeter. Few pick-and-rolls and driving
to the hole, although we had a flurry in the 2nd half, where we
were attacking the basket;
- Yeah, we never win the tournament (except for '16), and IMO,
this league has gotten stronger and has more parity.
Unfortunately, we live in the age of Grad Transfers (call it
College free agency), and I think we need to dip in this market
a bit to compete. Look at Hartford, they graduated 5 seniors
last year, and they are going to the finals, on the backs of
Ellison and Carter;
- I was at the game tonight, but Pav/Wincott do an awesome job
all season IMO;
- Special shut-out to our man Checkmate, who always keeps us
plugged in on game day, with his great analysis. We better not
lose Checkmate to a "grad transfer" :)
- I thought the refs sucked tonight, to be honest, and it went
both ways. Don't think they decided the game, but very uneven
officiating;
- Lots of Geno boo-birds tonight. Didn't coach his best game;
didn't switch on the picks that gave Hartford a lot of open 3
looks. Overall, I think he did an admirable job this season.
He's brutally honest which I like, and I think he's good for
team chemistry. I'd like to see him develop a better offensive
strategy, and pound the rock more. Hopefully, he can work on
this for next season;
- With the addition of Policelli, and hopefully (!) retaining
Garcia (who has NY roots), we can come back stronger next year.
I'd like us to pick up a "free agent" or 2 off the portal as
well, possibly displacing a few of the guys at the very end of
the bench. Scholarships are guaranteed beyond 1 year, right?
- My final thought is that with Coronavirus causing the Ivy
League to cancel their tournament, I'm thinking tournaments like
the CIT and CBI (if I have the acronyms right) may never even
get off the ground. These tournaments usually don't make money
for the hosting teams to begin with, so I think the virus may be
the deathknell for these tournaments this year.

hard to defend any when the % is 17, and the shot selection was
poor (contested, running right down and slinging it, off
balance, no attempt to work inside, deep, etc). even our scores
were somewhat flung up there. were easy to scout. and
therefore, defend. 19 points in the first half should prove it.
we should take as many as present themselves properly. the
three point attempt is a tool, not a strategy. if you work
inside, contract a defense, move the ball around and get an open
look with the right shooter- and the situation is right (meaning
not up 7 with 1 minute left), fire away. this is 101 obviously.
but running down and flinging up an airball without even looking
to see if your wings or post are open is selfish, get rick
quick, type of bball. hard to argue it's not our strategy when
we sometimes take over 30 a game, hit 8, and then lose by a few.
and its why we lose. and gallagher knows it. so does ford and
becker.
we don't use the shot clock. we dont control the tempo. we
dont create offense (easy shots) because we dont pass. know who
does? vermont. know who else? teams you see on national tv.
and for some reason- our program touts all these attempts. like
that's a good thing. in fact, i'd argue it's the reason we
sometimes lose.

Hear are my thoughts:
- Christie will transfer or be cut;
- I hope you are wrong about Garcia. He's not a Yeboah, but
could probably play in the A10 with some decent minutes (maybe
10-20 a night, not 30+ he's getting here). He was recruited by
Pikiell, so there is always the chance that he gets poached by
Rutgers, but I can't see him getting the more than 10 minutes
per game there. In any event, let the Garcia watch begin;
- Where is Foreman going to be given the keys to the kingdom,
like he has at Stony Brook. Not sure he can transfer again as a
Grad student (prob can), but I fully expect he'll be back;
- Chef and Mac will be Seniors; they will both be back, and
would need to sit a year on a transfer;
- Jeff can't be happy with his declining minutes, but as a
Senior, he'd have to sit out a year on a transfer. He'll be
back IMO;
- I think TPP is possible flight risk. IMO, he has terrible
body language with the Coach, and if everyone is back, his
minutes will be squeezed. I could see him looking to transfer;

Watch KK Hilaire on Friday. That's the kind of player we need on
this team. Just not enough creativity and distribution at this
point on the men's side.
It's worth noting that UVM has a transfer from Oklahoma State
and GW coming next season. The latter started 45 games over two
seasons. So I'm going to go ahead and assume we're NOT the
favorite in anything until we seize the position from Vermont.

If they stay D-I. Almonacy led SNHU in minutes and Long was at
almost 30 a night himself. Think they're looking back?

Good for them that they're getting PT, but they were both going
into their Junior year when they transferred. Harder to
transfer your Senior year, if you are looking to actually
graduate college on time. Granted lots of schools will take SBU
credits, but with major requirements and such, harder to
transfer and graduate all in 1 year, IMO. Of course, anything
is possible.

I'll root for Hofstra. Screw it. I did my MBA there. I guess I
caln root for them now.
I'm so tired and frustrated with this Stony Brook basketball
program. UMBC, Vermont, Albany all can pull surprise. We choke
year after year. Its really hard spending so much energy on a
program that gives nothing back to the fans.
Oh well. Gotta wait for Football season now

I wouldn't call tonight's loss a choke, considering Hartford is
a better team, with better players and despite the meltdown, a
better coach.
Bottom line, IMHO, despite the BB program talking itself into
mid-major relevance, SB is a slightly above-average team in a
below average conference. But I'll still watch because they play
hard, the games are entertaining, and every now and then they
surprise us.
As for SB athletics, there's still the women's BB team, the
men's lacrosse team seems to be off to a good start, and the
baseball team is always competitive...and finally there's
women's lacrosse, SB's best chance for a final four, or better.

I’ll have lengthier thoughts in the coming days
I knew better than to be hyped after we went up by 3. Because
it’s the same problems they have. All we need is one bucket to
gain some separation and it rims out. Ugh.
UMBC @ SBU for the finals would have been so dope
John Gallagher’s wife is fine as hell, I can confirm with my own
two eyes

im not disagreeing but couldnt you think that this was lost in
the first half, by going down 31-19?
