Losing to the worst team in D1 will surely screw the SB girls
seeding IF they make it to the NCAA, a 15 or 16 seed is
inevitable now.
I think their aim is winning the Conference Tourney making the
NCAA Tourney. That would be a huge step forward for them.

If the team that started 25-1 and won 22 games in a row doesn’t
win the conference tourney I’m going to blow a gasket

What an undisciplined mess last night.
No reliability here, but heard second-hand that Olaniyi still 2+
weeks out, which probably goes more with standard recovery for a
high sprain. But who knows...and after last night's display
wonder if it even matters.
With the shakedown of conference play and peering into the
crystal ball, I'm seeing SBU with the inside track (if you can
call it that) for the 4 seed. Feels to me Hartford and UMBC will
end up 2/3 in some order (and recent play has earned those
spots), whereas SBU, UA, and UNH will slot in 4/5/6.
Admittedly I haven't looked up tiebreakers so don't know for
sure, but if SBU loses out (especially after last night I don't
easily see a win these last two...) and UNH wins out maybe SBU
gets the tiebreaker over them with the UVA win. If SBU loses
out and UA wins out (beating both SBU and UVA, which I know
their fan base cannot imagine), not sure what the tiebreaker is
there. I suppose odds are UA doesn't win out, and so in that
case even if SBU loses out I guess that gives them the backdoor
booby prize of a first round home game.
But, eh, whatever...just not much to feel good about after that
game. Maybe you just hope Olaniyi comes back for the playoffs
and miraculously jolts SBU into a March AE run?

A few more nuggets on last night's game ...
- Just not enough looks for Garcia. He is clearly our most
effective offensive player with Elijah out, and certainly the
most versatile. How he's gotten so few shots the last few games
is beyond me. Just give him the damn ball. I can live with the
turnovers if he's getting more opportunities.
- 19 turnovers is bad on its own, but they were 19 of the worst
turnovers I've ever seen. The pressure spiked Hartford's
turnover total – it was at 2 midway through the second half –
but ours were inexcusable. Foreman's turnover when we had the
ball down 7 was just a dagger – not the worst one of the night
but crushing nevertheless.
- I take back anything bad I said about Ellison. He was the real
deal last night and deserves AE POY. I grossly misjudged his
athleticism, and his midrange jumper is just devastating. We get
so little of that. Get the defense on its heels and elevate.
- Through all the muck, Jeff had a nice night. He came close to
a double-double and only had one foul in 25 minutes.
Offensively, the dunks were nice, but he had a couple post moves
that resulted in points. Love that.

That's discouraging if Elijah's 2+ weeks out. I had heard one
of the coaches after the Vermont loss say that he'd be back for
the Albany game. Maybe he's had a setback. Geno, in
yesterday's presser, said he's day-to-day, but has not
practiced, and to be honest, did not sound overly optimistic on
his return. Without Elijah, we go nowhere, IMO.
Still too many scenarios to outline (due to the conference
congestion) on where we can land seed-wise, but here are some
thoughts:
- We still control our own destiny, in that if we can somehow
win the last 2, we get the #2;
- Hartford can jump us since they own the head-to-head against
us. If we lose one of the remaining 2, and Hartford beats
Maine, they jump us;
- UMBC can jump us since they beat UVM and Hartford, but they
need to win their last 2, and we need to lose our last 2 for
that to happen;
- I don't think Albany can jump us if they win out since they
would have split with UVM, lost 2 to Hartford, and split with
UMBC, split with UNH, but split with UML (we swept them);
- UNH cannot jump us, since we beat UVM.
So, I think we clinched the #4, unless I'm a bumbling fool and
missed something. We can finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th from here.
EDIT: This all assumes head-to-head tie-breakers. If there are
3-way (or more) ties, then I believe that tie-breakers are
head-to-head records of all those affected. In that case, not
sure if the above holds up 100%. Maybe we should just wait til
after Tuesday to figure this all out :)
