We'll put Olaniyi's point watch on hold. I do think 2,000 points
is off the board for him now. I thought it was interesting on
the Howl podcast to hear Ford say that we'll have our regular
rotation back in 2-3 weeks. That seems aggressive. He also
admitted that their focus has been on the three ball and a
faster pace, and that we haven't shot it well for about a month
now – just 56 for 189 (.296) since beating Vermont. Going
against Binghamton's zone, we gotta do better. Where's Policelli
when you need him?
I was going to recommend jumping on Bingo with them getting 9 at
home, but geez, they haven't been good. Bingo lost the three
games before facing us, and the four games since. That has
included TWO losses to Maine, one of them a 23-point pummeling
up in Bangor. It certainly feels like they have our number with
the two most recent defeats at their hands. And now we have to
do it without Elijah? Nine seems like a lot. I told my buddy to
bet BU but I won't.
His injury is obviously devastating – for him and from a fan's
perspective too. It does give us an opportunity to give a long
hard look at TSM and TPP, and I'm excited for it. They've both
shown some really good things this season, particularly TSM of
late. He's got a nice stroke, good bounce and is aggressive.
We need something from Gueye though. He played 32 minutes and
scored a career-high 16 the last time we played Bingo, but he's
been plagued by foul trouble and hasn't scored in each of the
last two games. With Elijah out, all of a sudden our bench is
shortened and we ought to see more of guys like Chef, Mac, and
TPP, and more minutes for our core guys. We not only need Gueye
to stay on the floor but also to put up numbers.
Also since our last game: Pierre Sarr 6.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg. He of
19, 14 and 5 against us. Still baffling how they've done it to
us twice.
It does feel like the bottom of the AE is better than it's been.
Maine, Binghamton, UNH, they've been in a lot of games this
year. I'm happy for all of them – three tough places to build
and maintain a program.

Totally agree that Gueye needs to get off the pot offensively.
He needs to get involved a lot more and stay out of foul
trouble.
Hard to see Elijah back in 2-3 weeks and being effective, with a
high ankle sprain, but maybe there was no ligament damage and
his injury isn't as bad as it looked. Who knows. Just having
him on the floor would certainly give us a lift.

As always, great preview Checkmate.
I thought that podcast interview was interesting as well. Of
course this, like most, athletic department keeps things pretty
tight and in-house, so have to take all public news like this
with some salt. Average fan has no real idea the extent of
Olaniyi's injury or any other things going on with players. My
general understanding of "high ankle sprain" (confirmed by my
Orthopedic MD neighbor who I happened to see yesterday) is a
very rough, painful injury that would take longer to heal...and
one of those things that can be quite nagging and lingering,
significantly hindering confidence and performance. I can't help
but think he's done for the year. But, who knows.
And that's a lot of minutes and points/performance to make up in
a team that's been feeling somewhere in the neighborhood of flat
to trending down since those early Vermont/UNH games (no
disrespect to Garcia and TSM, who have been solid to trending
up) .
More immediately, did SBU do Sessoms wrong somewhere along the
line? Sheesh, I mean, yeah, Bing is dreadful for the most part,
but Sessoms seems hellbent on dismantling the SBU program! I
wouldn't bet a dime on this game....
Feels like things couldn't be any more open now for UVM to waltz
into the NCAAs, if there was any doubt prior. But, this is the
wacky, one-bid AE. Some SBU guys are going to have to step up
BIG.

Does Foreman think he has to carry the team and go 4-20 from
three tonight?
This might be the game that gets Dempsey at Bing a three year
extension.

With or without Olanyai, if SB loses this game tonight the
season over.
Other players need to step up and fill the void. A balanced team
has more than one superstar. Ford, Guye, Garcia, Latimer.
Somebody needs to step up and replace the role.

No one is going to replace Olaniyi's production, but we should
be able to beat these guys with what we've got, even though
Sessoms is licking his chops as we speak.

Always tough to win on the road and our best player is out. I
just wish we had a couple of good big guys. Watching other
programs around the country you see their bigs scoring 20 and
grabbing 10 boards all the time . Our guys dont even know how
to pivot . Iowa, Michigan even Rutgers have guys around 6"10
or better scoring and grabbing rebounds . We have 4 guys over
6'8 and they struggle every night .

yep. this is why i was so focused on the recruiting for otchere
(at the time).
high % shots, putbacks, baby hooks, rebounds, mismatches,
blocks, drawing fouls, second chances with shot clock resets,
etc.
one NCAA appearance; by way of warney scoring 43 points with his
back to the basket. the rest is repeating a formula that
results in CBI, NIT, or worse.
