So we make the turn at 6-2, sitting in third place in the AE
with the two teams in front of us – Vermont and Hartford – set
to come to IFCU later this month. I think we'll never file away
the Binghamton result as we enter the next eight games, but all
things considered, a semifinal home game and even the #1 seed
are very much in play. So not bad.
I don't recall having this quick of a turnaround with a
conference opponent, not including a potential season finale/AE
tournament back to back. Do you?
I love the kid Noel's game – strong with the ball, fearless,
unafraid of contact. From the previous game, I was also
impressed with the kid Withers. I love that he competed
defensively and also that he could work inside and out
offensively. He'll be good, particularly after he fills out.
This game features the top two scoring offenses in the
conference – UML 78.4, SBU 74.9 – but the difference in our
seasons is they give up 85 and us just 66. They have talent, but
it's tough when you're getting annihilated on the glass every
night. UML enters the second half of the schedule with a by far
league worst -8.8 rebounding margin. That's how we got them in
the end. During our 13-0 run that turned a three-point deficit
into a 10-point lead midway through the second, they were
one-and-done offensively and we got five offensive boards over
that time span. To me, it's the same old Lowell – not enough
size.
On our side, it seems as though TSM has taken over as the
preferred ballhandler off the bench. He's played 15 and 16
minutes in the last two, including getting a start, whereas
McKenzie combined for just 10, and that's not including his
one-minute night against Bingo. Gueye's come on quite a bit,
although he had a hiccup in the first meeting with UML, playing
only 18 minutes due to foul trouble.
Looking at Lowell, as the AE's two leading scorers (in
conference play), Lutete and Noel are obviously a handful –
inside, outside, they're good. But I just think that unless they
come up with something defensively, a la Binghamton, we're going
to be able to win this one. Maybe even comfortably.
But, of course, Binghamton. So we'll see.

Second half is going to be interesting. 6-2 again probably puts
us on the road in the semis, although for tie breaking purposes,
the win over Vermont could loom large. Gotta take care of
business against the bottom half and a win over Hartford is a
must.

Interesting. UMBC is a three-point favorite tonight against
Hartford. They won the first meeting, and this time it's at
their place, so maybe we get some help.

not a great start. neither shooting well. otch could use some
better hands.
as usual, were down early, and we go on a run- twice garcia
drives the hoop for a layup.
otherwise, foul city. UML is scrappy.

it might be time to switch otch and the chef...
some other items to note- mack playing well with more minutes
(latimer is sick); both freshman on the court at the same time
(a first?); ESPN must have sent us the worst technology they
could find to cover the game.
we are doing just enough to stay in it. steals and caused TOs
are good tonight. also we know that mack can't dunk! ::) ;)

Just noticed that Latimer hasn’t only not played but he isn’t
even on the bench. I wonder what that’s all about.
