Won't put students in the seats until the games actually get
good. And yes, there were some good games last year, like JMU,
but games like Albany which are labeled with a bullshit title,
only to start down 24 less than three minutes into the second
quarter drives away most of the very few students who do choose
       to attend games.
The loss versus New Hampshire had very few students at the game,
and once again, most of the few students who went left before
half. Hell, even JMU most of the students left before half.
Fixing the onfield play may not lead to a massive uptick in
students attending games, but it certainly is a start. The
student experience at games is trash. We have low attention
spans, it's terrible. And unfortunately going to games is no
longer enough to keep most people's attention the entire time.
The onfield random events are fun and cute but look at arenas
and stadiums for other, bigger schools. They have booths you can
walk up to and play mini-games, or sign up for cool raffles.
Even upgrading the concessions will be a little bit of a bigger
draw. Adding alcohol definitely didn't hurt. Football
specifically needs a shake-up all around, from onfield play to
around the stadium, in order to get more students interested,
and the boosters from walking away (which they have, tons have
left and won't give money until Chuck is fired)
       [/quote]
Stony Brook banning all fans from going out of the stadium was a
major blow for fans and tailgaters. They made money with their
beer sales but will lose it with fewer ticket sales going
forward. My entire tailgate crew said they would not renew
tickets for next season because of this. Cant say selling
alschol was a win win because it wasn't.

the beer garden is a nice touch though. especially for those
who like to watch football (or even other sports) from that
       angle.

Put me in charge and I'd make attending football games a
mandatory activity like the way they do at military schools.
Like a lab class that requires attendance. That'll make the
       numbers go up. LMAO.

not a terrible idea. with our student body, it may just make
the #s look great. how many freshmen are there on campus,
       say... 3k?

They actually sort of did do that this past year (I think maybe
even in previous years, but not 100% sure). For the Freshman 101
class, they make students attended a certain number of "events"
on campus throughout the semester one of which is Football. But
they only need like 3-4 a semester and most students choose to
attend other things, and even when they go to Football games for
that class, they leave almost immediately.
But I like your idea a lot, just don't see how it could actually
be enforced (throwing Covid out the window because one day shit
will get back to normal and the stands will still be empty).

i do recall USB101 but have no idea what was required at this
       point...
did it make our #s go up? (of course, i know how the #s are
       fudged to begin with)

I'd assume attendance numbers were up last year, but not 100%
sure. At the end of the day, the fan experience needs an
overhaul, plain and simple. Onfield play is not good enough to
draw fans to the games, and once there, its not good enough to
keep students in seats, and spending money.

yeah i know. and i like good defense!
maybe there's a way to keep oct/nov games at peak hours for
sunlight, or maybe give out free hot cocoa, promote games more,
move them to thurs nights before kids go home. text everyone an
       hour before the game.
have RAs knock and doors and drag kids out. of course with
social distancing none of this is going to work.
years ago crazy eddie had a great idea- show football games (or
all sports for that matter) on closed circuit TVs around campus.
start to build the interest and the brand.

All of those are great ideas that seriously should be taken into
consideration, aside for the dragging kids out. Sending a text
an hour before the game is so easy for the school to do, don't
know why they don't. Promoting games more is a no brainer, but
they don't do it. Broadcasting it on the TV's around campus is
another idea that's simple, but they don't do. All these things
can be achieved, just no one gives a flying fuck to do. Its sad.

       dare i make the comparison???
ualbANy averaged 3830. with arguably worse weather. 13,500
       undergrads
       SB 2019 avg: 7316, 18k undergrads
so that's good. i think. neither are really in what i'd
       consider football country.
