Last year’s game at Bing was a three fest. Latimer made so many
shots that were close to halfcourt

"These days there’s such an emphasis on the three because it’s
proven to be analytically correct. Now you look at a stat sheet
after a game and the first thing you look at is the threes. If
you made threes and the other team didn’t, you win. You don’t
even look at the rebounds or the turnovers or how much
transition D was involved. You don’t even care. That’s how much
an impact the three-point shot has and it’s evidenced by how
       everybody plays.” – Gregg Popovich
Everything in moderation, guys. The bottom line is we're the
best three-point shooting team in the conference by a wide
margin. We shoot more. We make more. And it's not as though we
aren't still attacking the rim, but I'll take a (wide) open
three over a contested two most of the time. Just look at the
numbers – 45th in the country in 3%, 262nd in 2%. You tell me
where we have the edge on everyone else.
Yes, there will be nights when they don't go down, some
individual attempts that you'd take back, but it's the way the
game's going and we have the personnel to use it to our
advantage. I pray that, when everything's on the line, we're on.
And looking way down the line, cart completely in front of the
horse, if we have ANY hope of winning a tournament game against
a more athletic, more physical high-major team, we better be
       ready to shoot it!

Checkmate, certainly the game has gone through a change. All
sports do. Baseball is all about the long-ball, and game
strategies like bunting and hit-and-run are virtually
non-existent. Football is much more of a wide open passing game
rather than ground-and-pound. I guess we need to embrace these
changes if the analytics support it. Hard to argue with Popovich
(except maybe this season for him).
