Some good info in this quote. Policelli still potentially in
play for this upcoming season, and looks like Foreman will be
stepping in for Cornish at the point.

Heilbron is a cheerleader through and through. Visionary,
ambassador, supporter, all fantastic. But evaluator of talent? I
dunno about that.
Unfortunately, when you lay it on that thick, it's more
difficult to believe. TPP and TSM are HIGH-major guys all of a
sudden? Akwasi, who starred here and would be in the discussion
to have his number retired if he stayed, just transferred to
Rutgers. Rotational guys Moor and Long just transferred to Texas
State and Southern New Hampshire. So you're telling me that
these incoming players went completely under the radar and
should be playing P5 basketball? What did he tell us about Moor
and Long?
Hey, I hope he's right, but ... have you seen Vermont's roster?

Akwasi is the second best player in Stony Brook history. He’s
6th in career points scored having played just the three
seasons.
And he still bolted.

Hey, that's his job. I agree, a bit long on exaggeration, but
his success is predicated on results. He's trying to rally the
troops, after we lost our best player, graduated our point
guard, and had 2 other guys transfer on us. BTW, his success
will hasten his exit as well, when he makes his jump to the next
level. Although it sucks losing quality people, the fact that
Stanley and Akwasi have been recruited away, is just a tip of
the cap to how Stony Brook has grown both academically and
athletically in the eyes of the rest of the country.

Well said. But you have to give Helibron credit. He is the most
positive person I think I have ever spoken to. He definitely
knows how to rally his troops. But, I still se SB finishing 500
this season.

positive person I think I have ever spoken to. He definitely
knows how to rally his troops. But, I still se SB finishing 500
this season.

I didn’t mean anything negative with the “cheerleader” comment.
To have an AD who’s this involved, enthusiastic and transparent
is a major plus. If you want to talk high major, he’s a high
major AD. BUT I’m hesitant to take his on-court evaluation as
the gospel.

You’re right. Tempering the enthusiasm is sensible. That said,
Ford can coach, Weber can recruit and take a look at Mo’s film -
he looks like the freakish athlete SB doesn’t usually get in any
sport. It may take awhile. We’ll see.

We'll have some serious competition in the AE this year, but
this is better than a .500 team. I expect 20 wins and a 2nd or
3rd place finish in the AE. He's a cheerleader for the team, but
at the same time we're basically getting four starters back from
a 24 win team last year. No reason to be a pessimist.

Quite frankly. I dont think 500 is a pessimist at all. This is a
rebuilding team from top to bottom. From an entirely new
coaching staff, players and heck! Even a new president. Going
500 for year 1 of a new team is expectable, respectable and
plausible.
