leagues 1st divisions.

To me, going pro (Europe) makes more sense than transferring to
a stronger program.
Transferring to a stronger conference COULD result in decreased
playing time and decreased #'s statistically. This, in turn,
COULD decrease his value professionally. Then again, carrying
similar AE stats in a better conference, could increase his
marketability.
Staying home at SBU for another year can allow him to build on
his statistical resume, compete with Lamb for PoY, stay in
familiar surroundings, and seek out the teams' ultimate goal
with his friends.
If I were his Dad or good friend, I would advise him to either
stay at SBU or go pro now. As a fan, I would advise him to stay
at SBU.

take a one year masters, get the team into the NCAAs, break some
SB records, beat ualBany (twice), graduate with your jersey
hanging from the rafters.

How do they hold a press conference and the media asks three
questions? Give me the darn mike.
Nice event though. They said there were four players in
attendance with the rest being in class; I only saw Garcia and
believe Ochefu was there too. Maybe Christie?
I'm encouraged by the prospect of using our athletes to speed
teams up. I didn't think we did enough of that this year. If we
had, maybe Long would have gotten more run and stayed!
I thought it was interesting that Heilbron said the department's
goal is to reach a point where "when people think of March
Madness, they think of Stony Brook." I dunno about that one, but
I'm all for lofty.

Totally agree. 3 questions from the same Newsday reporter, to
boot. Where was News12? Where was the WFAN? SBU has to learn
to put on a better show than that, if they want to elevate their
image nationally.
P.S. I wasn't there, I viewed the stream on AmericaEast.TV.

I clicked on the stream at the end with what turned out to be
the last question, that silly softball one about LeBron, and
thought, "Wow, I hope there were some harder-hitting questions
prior to that one." I guess not.

The players in attendance were Cornish, Ochefu, Garcia, and
Mackenzie.
I like Geno Ford's personality. Also happy that it appears that
they'll be keeping Coach Greene as the strength and conditioning
coach at Stony Brook. Nice to keep the consistency there as
well.

Heilbron has been talking up basketball, getting at-large bids,
etc. for years now. Fact of the matter is we're not going to get
anywhere near that level as long as we're in the America East.
Most FBS conferences that would consider us probably wouldn't
get us to that level either. Unless he wants to turn us into the
next Gonzaga, what he's talking about won't happen.
With what us and Vermont had/have coming back though, had Yeboah
stayed, and both programs won a few big OOC games, maybe the AE
title game loser could back into the tournament with a second
bid the same way Belmont did this year for the Ohio Valley. It
would take another year of a historically weak bubble in a down
A10 and Pac-12 for that to ever happen. Basically there's no
chance in Hell of the AE ever being a multi-bid conference.

Yup. I have been saying the same thing forever. Stony Brook
athletics will never be taken seriously as long as they are in
the AE. America East conference is basically the North East
conference, except for the full scholarship compliance. Nobody
cares about low major conferences. Bottom line. SB/Heilbron
could very easily stop the madness of losing quality coaches and
obtaining high quality coaches if he pushes this university to
move up and out.
