Shawn is an extremely friendly, smart and witty man as well as
an outstanding AD, I have every faith in the world to believe he
will find this program a real good HC. With that said. I just
hope he is not the next guy to leave this program for a higher
paying program, at least not in the near future..

Funny you mention that. I've always said/thought that at the end
of the day, Shawn is a west coast guy with west coast roots.
Barring something unbelievable like leading SBU up to the FBS,
AAC, and beyond, I expect that once a fairly prominent AD job
out west opens up he's gone. I have schools like USC, and
Washington in my head as those would be obvious ones anyone with
his background would take, but possibly even slightly less
prestigious jobs out there like maybe Oregon State, Colorado,
etc. should they become available.

i try to stay positive- if we lose someone like SH to... USC, i
look at it as we had the services of someone of USC-caliber.

Given the potential $ issue that Fred raised above, here are a
couple of ideas on HC (from the AC arena):
1) Speedy Claxton from Hofstra, who has been AC for 6 years, was
a scout for the Golden State Warriors for 3 years, and has name
recognition from his NBA and collegiate days. He has been on
Hofstra staff for 6 years, and has obvious Long Island roots:

2) Lamar Barrett from Hofstra, who has been an AC for 3 years,
involved with recruiting, and was at Old Dominion for 3 years
prior to that:
HTML https://gohofstra.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1548&path=mbball
3) Rashon Burno, currently AHC at Arizona State, AC at Manhattan
(under Masiello), AC at Florida, played at Depaul. He's moving
up the ladder, but could we afford him?:

4) Matt Abdelmassih, AC at St. Johns and graduated from there.
AC at Iowa State. Has obvious NY roots. Several of the current
class saying that they're going pro. Might be a good time to
nab him, but is he seasoned enough to take over the HC reigns at
SBU? Has excellent recruiting credentials:

I hope that Heilbron looks takes a good look at Jay Young. He
and Pikiell have been recruiting at a high level at Rutgers and
winning some games in the Big 10. I'm not sure who else is out
there, but Jay Young's resume only looks better now than it was
three years ago. I think he would be a really good get.

If it's not Geno, and I have no info on whether it will or won't
be, then I fully expect to the next candidate to come out of
left field, just as Boals did three years ago.

It being an "unexpected" hire is fine, so long as whoever it is
has some ties to the northeast, making them less likely to bolt.

I have a few expectations for this hire- I'd prefer a local guy
who will want to stay here. I think Pikiell really would have
stayed here forever but its hard to turn down a Big 10 offer. He
loved living here and raising his family locally. Priore, for
all his warts, loves being in this area. Despite cost of living
and whatnot, Long Island is still IMHO a great place to be. I
want a guy with a good pedigree and who can recruit well.
If it were up to me, Speedy Claxton would be my #1 target. He
knows NYC and Long Island, was a 1st round NBA draft pick, and
seems to be an apt recruiter. He also lives in Dix Hills so you
don't have to sell him on Long Island. I'll give Hofstra credit
where its due- their team has come a long way with multiple
solid recruiting classes.
Jay Young should also get a look but I get the sense that ship
has sailed. Again, he's a guy that knows the area and really
built the solid Stony Brook defenses that we knew and loved.
I don't love these firms for coaching searches to be honest- I
think a comprehensive search by the administration would be
sufficient.
